>>212362163>may be one of the most based major directors in Hollywood historySomething I find really interesting about movies like this is how well they've aged given there's been pretty much nothing like it made since (closest comps would probably be American Sniper and Warfare, but even then those movies weren't as explicitly damning against the government's role in those wars as the Vietnam movies were). There was this little window from after Vietnam ended to before the Cold War ended that you could make these really serious, dark, intelligent films that were deeply critical of the U.S government and the MIC particularly from the perspective of White Americans. Now stuff like that would never get produced, which makes movies like this all the more important and all the more timeless.
