Surprisingly, an excellent Fourth of July film.

Indeed, Oliver Stone may be one of the most based major directors in Hollywood history. Even if he refuses to name the J.

Something I find really interesting about movies like this is how well they've aged given there's been pretty much nothing like it made since (closest comps would probably be American Sniper and Warfare, but even then those movies weren't as explicitly damning against the government's role in those wars as the Vietnam movies were). There was this little window from after Vietnam ended to before the Cold War ended that you could make these really serious, dark, intelligent films that were deeply critical of the U.S government and the MIC particularly from the perspective of White Americans. Now stuff like that would never get produced, which makes movies like this all the more important and all the more timeless.
>Even if he refuses to name the J
If a movie like this about the Iraq War came out in 2025 I guarantee it'd be considered antisemitic propaganda and smeared as such all over the place.

Unironically the parade scenes at the start were such a brilliant way to start off the kino

I have to watch this movie at some point, but every time I hear it being mentioned I think of this scene out of context and it never fails to make me laugh.

We're about due for some Iraq/Afghanistan anti-war kino. Most of the ones I've seen have just been propaganda like Zero Dark.

Check out picrel if you've got the time. I thought it was fantastic and arguably the best American war film since FMJ.

The entire Vets/anti-viatnam activists schism was a Soviet psyop that worked surprisingly well.

Elaborate. I know that the Soviets did a lot to promote anti-war stuff since the beginning but I don't think I've heard of this angle, especially given the G.I movement was arguably the most effective faction opposing the war.

I mean, obviuosuly given it sows dissent. That's what all intel agencies do. But I highly doubt they were the ones that seeded them as a whole given how widely varied theories are about him.
