Hank was primarily butthurt because he always saw himself as the alpha male to Walts beta, and Walt doing this was the biggest possible dickslap in the face considering his career .

The show directly showed this in some respects, with how Hank did dumb, illegal shit like not telling anyone about Walt and running covert stings on him because he wanted to bring him in himself

he's not a 'normal person' he's a DEA agent. it was a career-destroying (and thereby life-destroying) revelation and his only hope was to make sure walt got got. if he was unable to detect his own brother in law as the most prolific meth dealer in the country, why would anyone trust him to catch any criminal?
