I watched it until about episode 17 of season 1 and it bores me to tears. Does it ever get better? I have no interest in action scenes and the whole โ€œletโ€™s just talk about our plan for 3 episodes and then execute it over 7 episodesโ€ thing is very tiresome.

It's a long series that takes place over 7 or 8 years, the first season is just "Titans bad" but it becomes more complicated.

pretty much this.
iirc originally there've been several different endings in mind.
one of them being a play on "the mist" where people from outside of the island were actually trying to reach and rescue the islanders but didn't manage to do it in time and everybody would've either died or hide out in the wilderness after the titans completely destroyed the city

I was enjoying the story for the first half. Then I got lost in the lore and politics. Something something, some people killed another, so one turns into titans and kills the others and the protagonists just want to kill everyone but then again that's wrong and... I was totally filtered. I just wanted to see monsters attacking towns.

>was
wasn't set in stone or anything, the author just had a couple ideas in mind of where the plot might've gone.
altogether it was originally supposed to be a way smaller scale story about humans fighting monsters, the mist idea was one of the more nihilistic outcomes - everybody dies, the end.
and only about halfway in with the basement mystery box revealed it turned towards world politics, cycles of violence and warfare, etc.

it is generally an often childish and naive kind of visual entertainment, with plenty of retardedly goofy shit that is primarily suited for children and adolescents.
i still enjoy watching it every now and then but i always end up finding something insanely nonsensical to nitpick about.
that being said i'd also recommend you to check out those shows and films listed here >>212377715 i haven't seen evangelion yet, but cowboy bebop and the gits movies and original two seasons are rather enjoyable, just make sure you watch those produced prior to 2010

Season 1 is fine, kind of generic anime slop and the middle drags on with bad pacing.
Season 2 picks up and it does get way better. Season 3 still has some pacing issues but it gets more interesting. It just gets better and more interesting until the writer went completely insane and took a shit all over the series. Not only are the last maybe 3 hours of the anime dogshit but this retard goes out of his way to retroactively ruin everything that came before it.
At its peak Attack on Titan was easily the best anime until it had one of the worst endings I've ever seen in media, possibly the worst. It puts Game of Thrones to shame.

People who were already burned by shitty endings to mediocre series like AoT were unsurprised at how it ended. Nips generally can't write satisfactory endings, not even to save thier mothers getting piped by Puerto Ricans. If you remember how quick Tokyo Ghoul was memoryholed, you'll know it's par for course.

All the build up gets ruined right at the end.
The main character stops not even halfway but 80% short of his worldwide genocide in self defense, all to give his "friends" (which betrayed him and his people) a few decades of peace, not taking into account that because of what he did and the hate they already had for his people, they will for sure now be completely wiped off the earth and all memory of them erased, rightfully so.

Everything was wrong with the ending. Eren's motivation for killing 80% of human population is that he is just retarded. Eren 100% is reborn as a bird that watched Jean fuck Mikasa every night. All the titan stuff gets reduces to a shitty unexplained worm that gets killed off screen. All the characters in the end teaming up to kill their own race. It being confirmed that death doesn't exist in Attack on Titan and everyone who dies just gets to live as a ghost. Mikasa making out with a decapitated head and then going alone on a journey on foot traveling continents of destroyed terrain to deliver Eren's rotten head back to Paradis after swimming for the ocean for years. A small team of regular people taking on literally thousands of special titans like it's nothing. The entire titan curse ending because Ymir was simply in love with her slaver and needed 2000 years to witness necrophilia which is the only thing that can lift the titan curse.

There isn't anything about the ending that isn't bad or retarded. This guy went out of his way to make it as retarded as possible to fuck with the fans. The ending isn't just bad, it's malicious.

i really enjoyed the weird titans the abnormals whatever they called them, after the first season these fucks stop showing up and you end up being left with a mass of boring generic titans and the few unique ones (which are boring until you get to that giant one crawling on the ground). >only one aspect
eh, the titans are a rather central part of the plot, so whenever there is something new happening with them the viewers get curious about their nature.
it's understandable people would expect way more than it being a genetically inherited bio-weapon and paradis being australia

What kind of a moral is that supposed to be?

i think the bombs hit a generation or two removed from mikasa and friends' death. all eren really ended up accomplishing was the creation of a world where his specific group of friends could live free of threats from "beyond the walls." he did that. he was powerless to stop warfare at large, and probably worsened it through his actions, but he just wasn't really all that forward thinking (100+ year timeframe), which is ironic and incredibly stupid given his "power" to see time

it is often (if not always) a struggle to write a character who's supposed to be inconceivably smart or gifted with supernatural cognitive skills like seeing the past and the future.
especially if it's a one man project by some arguably averagely intelligent young guy

Isayama was so committed to Eren being Hitler 2.0 that he had Eren betrayed by his friends for the power of friendship and tolerance, only for them to get bombed by the people Eren tried to save them from, proving that Eren and Floch were right while Armin was wrong. It was the true Hitler ending.

I've always found it difficult to gauge how tough these things are.
Like you mean to tell me they couldn't just blow them apart with cannons.

Or just use their ODM as harpoons.

I understand part of the show is progress of technology and how quickly titans were becoming obsolete. But I just get the feeling that even mediaeval man wouldn't have much problems with Titans

a lot of stuff of "why didnt they just x the titan" can be handwaived by the government purposely keeping everyone dumb and contained for plot reasons.

The regenerative powers have a limit.
Even the special 9 can't regenerate everything.

Even it being a show about magical monsters, it just always felt beyond belief that humans would have trouble with these things.

Honestly pre historic man would just use oil and fire to just burn them to death.

I just can't ever see them as some credible threat. They should have at least given them some more intelligence
