So that he could erase something that He Himself cursed humanity with from the start because we failed the first shit test ever because He designed us to not be able to overcome such testing. And for some reason, to do so He wanted to assume a human body and get killed instead of doing it from above with his omnipotence. And still nothing changed because humanity still kept sinning afterwards.
So I guess He did it for the lulz.

sin cannot exist in the presence of a Holy God without being destroyed through wrath.
therefore humanity as a whole became a failed project by God's nature and inability to forgive sin without wrath.
so how do you redeem your creation of humanity without destruction?
by pouring out your full wrath upon yourself which you experience personally on the Cross.
this qualifies humanity permanently as wrath has been abided by all those who believe in Him.
