I think OP is referring to "high concept plot" inside a "self contained setting"
After Cube ends, you can have more Cube movies, but you don't really need more Cube setting buildup.
With every new Ghost in the shell movie you also get more Ghost in the shell background buildup (I'm not sayings this is a bad thing)
