>O'Brien died from suicide (self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head) at his Beverly Hills apartment on April 10, 1994,[9] two weeks after signing away the rights to adapt his novel, Leaving Las Vegas. His father and book critics said that the novel was his suicide note, while his sister, Erin O'Brien, thought the book was "the beautiful poetic way to check out: Taking that long slug of liquor and gurgling into his death with this beautiful woman."[8]

I will preface I have never seen the movie, but I have read the Leaving Las Vegas book. It’s fine. Not exceptionally well written, but it is incredibly sad and pathetic. I’m sure Nic Cage is wildly good in the film that’s all I’ve really heard about it. Of course as many people do, including his father, I think that John O’Brien was writing the book about himself. It’s a great example of someone who truly embraces their own demise well believing there’s no way out. He’s giving up and accelerating his death with style. A very unique and human way to do it as opposed to some other more cliche examples of alcoholics drinking themselves to death. Anyone cheers boys.

I had to drop out of college due to drinking but it wasn't the drinking itself rather it was the chronic beer shits. Drinking allowed me to have an unbelievable social life, never had hangovers, embarrassing drunk moments, anything. But when I woke up I had to shit so much. Small shits and semifrequent intervals. I wasn't able to stay in class because I had to shit for the whole morning. I got kicked out because I wasn't able to attend class due to having to shit all the time.

You didn't have to drink beer specifically. You could have had wine and graduated with an education. You made your strange choice. Just quit deluding yourself into thinking you don't regret it. You do. Every day.
And now you DO get hangovers. lol

I didnt just drink beer, but I did have plenty of it. I was living in a third world shithole as an exchange student so I thought it was just the food. I didnt realize it was all the beer until it was too late. I would've just stuck to absinthe had I known.

a glass of metamucil every morning would've solved this

even if you're not a drinker you certainly need to increase you fiber uptake as the modern western diet is like 10% inadequate and it really can lead to pretty nasty intestinal diseases as you get older

Well yeah I guess you're right. My older brother drank freely but my younger brother was kinda dodgy about it until he got into the military and now he probably drinks more than me. My sister won't drink anything other than vodka seltzer drinks. Besides the frat bros I went to school with, my closest friend takes a month to finish a bottle of sweet wine and considers drinking 4 beers over the course of a day to be partying, he was pretty concerned when we went to a rodeo and I drank 7 beers over a whole evening kek.

I think it has to do with the fact that alcohol is a social drug/lubricant and younger people really aren't partying or even just hanging out as much anymore. Social media and other parasocial trash like twitch streamers are destroying young people's social lives.

My record is 18 tall boys throughout the day, probably gave me some serious liver damage I couldn't feel my whole right side in the morning. I had a 10 day sober streak recently it felt good, but not as good as getting fucked up every day.
