What's the best version? 1930, 1979, or 2022?

Yes, and it makes him all the more despicable, because he KNEW that his insistence on artistically depicting war as noble and heroic was horrifically false and he did it anyway. Worse than that, he imprisoned and murdered artists (who also fought in the trenches) that wanted to give an accurate picture of what happened. Like Otto Dix or Ernst Kirchner or George Grosz.

Haven't seen the 1930 one but probably the '79 one is better than the '22 one. '22 had bad pacing. The beginning part was too short whereas it was longer and more impactful in '79. They basically went straight into war in '22 then after a bit of fighting they go into way too much downtime with them sitting around talking. Not that I'm looking for pure action, but I just felt the pacing was off and they could've evened them out a bit more.
