RDJ as Sherlock was fine compared to the retarded shit we get in most period pieces nowadays.

>was fine
As I get older, I increasingly understand the value of "fine," "adequate," and especially "good"

not everything can be fucked groundbreaking and with how much fucking GARBAGE there is for something to just be "fine" is more of an accomplishment than I think any of us realize

yeah sure it was an "okay" Sherlock Holmes adaptation but in retrospect I feel like I'd say it's probably one of the best, if not THE BEST

I tried watching some of the Soviet adaptations but I felt their Holmes was a bit too dry compared to what I consider the gold standard, which is of course Jeremy Brett.

The best Sherlock Holmes adaptation is The Great Mouse Detective.

I'm pretty sure they're reasonably well liked as perfectly passable popcorn entertainment.

based
also personally there is my favorite Watson
hate the dumb fatsos they use in all western adaptations
here he feels just right and his friendship with Holmes feels genuine and earned

Every movie with anthropomorphic animals attracts furries, they are a fucking cancer. The Great Mouse Detective is still a phenomenal movie, just ignore that part of the fanbase.

Loved his Sherlock, sad they dropped him being a junkie who hated women after just a few episodes.

When I saw this as a kid I fucking hated it, because I was fanatic of the Conan Doyle stories and this was nothing like them. It's basically a buddy cop/bromance film in the (most cursory) trappings of Sherlock Holmes (only claim to being an adaptation it has is that its characters have the same names as the ones in the stories). Now, however, this is precisely what I appreciate these films for, these films are made with panache and brio, and the chemistry between RDJ and Law is off the charts
