S2 and 3 have bad pacing. Take the scene where Seong stabs the dude in S3. He walks into the room. He struggles and then decides not to. We cut to another scene and then back. All three are well written and shot but put together the entire episode becomes repetitive and boring.

In the hide and seek game, we basically see him embrace the idea that he’ll do anything to save his girl. He goes so far as to cross the moral line into killing innocents just to raise the chances that the girl he loves survive. But instead they drop the ball by having him try to save himself over the kid.

What they should have done is take that motivation to its logical end. He ends up having to kill Gi hun, not because he wants to save himself, but because he simply can’t accept even a 1% chance that his child might die. That should have been the real conflict. Gi hun, on the other hand, misunderstands him and doesn’t fully trust that he’s putting the baby first. So they end up in opposition, not because either of them is selfish in reality, but because neither can risk believing the other will put the baby above themselfs. When in reality, they both would.

Something I don't see anyone talking about is that S3 confirmed they use the exact same games across multiple iterations of the Squid Games. The fact that the Frontman experienced the platform game (evident through his flashback and advice to Gihun) years ago proves that they recycle games. Which implies there are probably other facilities on other islands already set up.

Season 2 was so fucking good compared to the shitshow that was Season 3, from the outside parts, Gi-Hun hunting down the recruiter, playing Russian Roulette, his dynamics with Frontman outside and inside the games.
How could they fuck it up this hard, they had everything to deliver a satisfying conclusion

I think the characters motivations were purposely ambiguous so that it provokes conversation. Questioning the dad's motives raises the central question posed by the front and the show, "do you have faith in people?". Does the dad intend to sacrifice himself after making certain the baby makes it? Or was he going to throw it and walk away with the money?

Gi huns choice to not trust the father, but only trust himself to sacrifice, shows a nuanced answer to the question that fulfills his arc. He is no longer naive and knows that there's no limit to human depravity, but he also believes in the capacity of humanity. He makes a calculated judgement to survive, only to use it to serve someone other than himself

Thematically I think most everything works well, even though it's unsatisfying (by design) that the people running the game get away with it. Just a lot of weak execution and a major fumbling of the detective arc. You give his arc the grimmest possible end by failing once again to stop the machine, only for him to forget about it cause he got blood money and an orphan? Bizarre. Also completely wrecks what little suspension of disbelief we the audience need for such an arch premise by meekly blowing up the facilities and that "wiping away any evidence". Even more absurd to have the only other surviving participant completely happy to just get back to life making caricatures
