there was a documentary that aired on HBO a few years back that followed several drug addicts over the course of decades
after the first half which was mostly in the late 80s, it started cutting forward and showing how they kept fucking up through the 90s and 00s and all slowly started dying
if you thought about it for a minute the latter half was basically the result of the filmmaker finding out one of the people was in trouble again, showing up to film their misery, and then fucking off without helping them. it was literally one of the most exploitative things I've ever seen
one of the guys ended up dying of an OD and it shows the cops talking to the filmmaker about it, before panning down to show the dead guy's putrified corpse on the morgue table

I wasn't necessarily shitting on going to reunion shows, I went to a bunch. There's definitely a clear difference between that and being part of a scene. I don't really care about either but they're definitely different . What I was pointing out was a period of time, at least in LA, where those smaller scenes had mostly died out outside of the Mexican back yard punk stuff. So anyone that was young in that era would be larping as if going to Adolescents shows at the House of Blues was the same as bopping around a diy scene.
