They can but desu the level of craft in pornography is almost universally terrible, even more so at the amateur/onlyfans level. Tarantino and PTA can both suggest it should be recognised as a genre but neither of them make films in it.

I don't think you can get the same emotional and intellectual response in porn that you can from traditional films. Even assuming it is a genre its primary function is to arouse and provide sexual gratification. It's an inherent limitation with it as a storytelling medium; you can't tell a fulfilling or compelling story if the plot has to slam to a stand still every five minutes for a 15-20 minute sex scene. Even assuming you trimmed it down most audiences would become bored by the second sex scene and just want to move on with the plot, provided it was actually well written. But have you ever seen a porno that could stand on its own merits as a highly entertaining or artistic film if all the sex scenes were cut out? I haven't.
