Rainbow-colored cast, ugly sets, boring writing. Skip and watch Raised by Wolves, the superior Fimmel kino.

It's fine, but has the general issues that all KJA slop has. It's basically Star Wars tier, writing of the quality you would expect from a star wars novel/show.

As long as you don't except Frank Herbert's Dune quality you might enjoy it.

I've heard it's shit because it follows the lore of the post-Frank Herbert dune books which I guess are trash

It's shit.
The Dune books not written by Frank Herbert are all garbage.
And to be honest, Frank himself was running out of steam with Chapterhouse and Heretics. He very clearly got through all of his ideas by God Emperor, the book where he quite literally just loosely frames a plot around random philosophical dialogues and lore dumps that reinforce the philosophical themes.
Man God Emperor of Dune rules. It is borderline unfilmable, but if the Villeneuve movies keep making money maybe he will yolo and push to adapt Children/God Emperor.
