if worms comes every time why dont they just build the lifters into the miners?

because the CHOAM corporation and the Bene Gesserit are working secretly to breed a new super worm that can tolerate water, and they manipulated affairs in Arakeen to prevent lifters from being built into the miners so as to discredit the entire desert spice mining concept.

compartmentalization is superior.
the lifting machines require extreme engineering technology to lift such weight. so theyre always in need of constant and ruthless repair and systematic checking. this takes time to do well.
so you make it a swappable unit instead, can constantly be worked on and monitored for faults while the miner riggs are out working.

Spice is a multi multi trillion dollar industry worth raping the entire planet for, can they seriously not make it safer?
The entire spice harvesting lore is fucking stupid as hell, there's no way to make it make sense

The worms are clearly analogs of Jews. They dig tunnels, greatly influence commerce and have a direct relationship with weather control. It would have been to obvious to give them big noses and little hats.

Honestly, to me, its a red flag if anyone thoroughly enjoys this flick. Not for reasons most of you think though.

The entire premise of this movie is some underdog kid becoming the literal savior of an entire race and brutally killing two seemingly insurmountable forces of oppression (The emperor and harkonnen/sardaukar armies). A movie like this typically resonates with people whom are deep seated, grade-A narcissists. Everyone I have encountered who likes this movie is a completely self absorbed asswipe that thinks they are superior to everyone they encounter, that they are somehow “different” or “awake”. I don’t quite understand how this hasn’t been flagged as a right wing extremist coded movie, because it certainly is one.

every single mining rig needs to be able to fly away every time it goes mining, so this makes no sense
>>212420033
you can make it swappable without having an additional single-point-of-failure mechanism that if it fails you lose the entire mining rig, its crew, and anything mined

that seems to be a weakness of the dune setting in particular: no redundacy. for instance
>Atreides being killed off because one dude betrayed them
>no warnings that the security system was down
>didn't launch any satellites or have any warning of the impending attack despite knowing it was coming (though not that the emperor sided against them)
>just pisspoor segregation of duties and redundancy in general

it can be left for hours at a time with no threats.
the mining riggs would be much easier to construct too. it's basically a plow that moves around thats it. the lifter needs such technological innovation its insane. you'd never want to lose a lifter. riggs are expendable.

It's much easier to lift things with machines that are already flying then it is to make it take off by itself. What you suggesting is like putting helicopter parts on construction truck.

How about you just build a hundred fucking helicopters to lift your hundred trucks and be on station near them. It's the most vital, expensive and priceless commodity in the unvierse, surely a hundred copters is literally nothing.

It's much safer and more efficient to have the flying capability built into something that needs to fly every few hours than it is to have independent machines which have a single point of failure (one attachment failing = the whole miner/crew/spice is lost) and due to the SOP of mining have zero ability for another ship to come save it.

the problem is you think this is happening all the time (worms constantly swallowing harvesters) but the system they had worked well enough. this was not a common thing at all, they had a military disciplined system and it worked.
thats why the duke is so upset when the lifter isn't showing up, because it's so rare a mistake like that happens

the lifter does show up, retard. you can even see it in the OP. they wait until the last minute to do it to maximize time spent mining.

but then the carryall's attachment fails and that almost caused them to lose the entire load of spice, the harvester, and the crew.

it's piss poor planning

that tells you everything you need to know about the system.
they're not even scared when the warning sign is called about a monster that can swallow them whole approaching. they trust the system.
sometimes horrible accidents happen (for the plot).

What is this retarded logic? They have to fly every single time. Sit a trained pilot (they're a "family" who controls a planet and has a huge army, they can train them) in the harvester until it's time.

They have pools. And they even have hidden large bodies of water. It's not at all hard for humans to consider what happens if those amounts of water get bigger and bigger, especially when off-worlders tell tales of such.

>add weight, reduce mobility, make harvesters more vulnerable
>still need to be detachable because why wouldnt they be
>lifters are lightly armored, technical, and "weak". their mechanisms probably get destroyed from constant desert exposure
>most expensive technology capable of delivering military superiority, with many many other uses, now permanently transfixed onto a ground unit collecting resources
how many times do i have to say it, lifters are expensive harvesters are junk.
