Saw it in theaters with my first girlfriend when we were 18, we loved it. Iโ€™m 33 now, makes me sad to look back on my childhood. I think no matter how things turned out for me I would feel some level of regret or longing for a different life.

Great movie anyway, still holds up imo

This film reminds me of a girl in my AV class back in high school because she mentioned it one. She kinda looked like MEW in this film, without the weird hair color. I was attracted to her and she noticed and I think she liked me as well but she had a boyfriend. She moved away like a month after we started school. We talked once on Facebook, it was nice.

Reminder that you will never be as young again as you are now. You think you're old at 33, but at 43 you'll wonder why you didn't do x y and z at 33. Wake up and go after what you want. Otherwise 10 years from now you'll wonder why you didn't do it 10 years ago.

Is it possible live the sort of lifestyle presented in the movie today? Being around mostly other young people, working part-time, going to tons of concerts and coffee houses, etc?

I mean, all the big Canadian cities are owned by rich overseas investors and overrun with Pajeets. The Pacific Northwest in the USA was ruined by tech guys and insanely expensive.

I remember being in college and a friend putting this movie on for our group and at one point towards the end one of them looked at me and said "look at the video game references we know you like video games anon so figured you'd love this".
Didn't have the heart to tell them it was the gayest shit I'd ever seen, but it allowed me to self reflect enough to almost immediately stop playing video games cold turkey after seeing it
It's the same level of bad as Dogma, which turned atheist edgy me into a hardcore Christian by virtue of how awful it was so in a weird way I appreciate these shit movies

You can pretty much anywhere in North America/Europe but you have to be fine living in essentially a trap house or get some rent support from your parents.
Dicking around and hanging out with other young people and going to shows for the cool bands they were in was basically college for me in Austin. I was pretty burnt out on that vibe by the end of it - a lot of those people are dorks with tall poppy syndrome who try hard to be cool but tear anybody down who (ironically) does not conform to their idea of what a nonconformist looks like. Kinda fun and you get laid a bunch but I barely talk to any of those people now. In retrospect, I wish I just made good friends and played D&D or joined a recreational soccer club or something instead.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrington_Event

>The following conversation occurred between two operators of the American telegraph line between Boston, Massachusetts, and Portland, Maine, on the night of 2 September 1859 (as reported in the Boston Evening Traveler):

Boston operator (to Portland operator): "Please cut off your battery [power source] entirely for fifteen minutes."

Portland operator: "Will do so. It is now disconnected."

Boston: "Mine is disconnected, and we are working with the auroral current. How do you receive my writing?"

Portland: "Better than with our batteries on. โ€“ Current comes and goes gradually."

Boston: "My current is very strong at times, and we can work better without the batteries, as the aurora seems to neutralize and augment our batteries alternately, making current too strong at times for our relay magnets. Suppose we work without batteries while we are affected by this trouble."

Portland: "Very well. Shall I go ahead with business?"

Boston: "Yes. Go ahead."

The conversation was carried on for around two hours using no battery power at all and working solely with the current induced by the aurora, the first time on record that more than a word or two was transmitted in such manner.[27]

Might not have the effect you expect.

Its pretty ridiculous. Depending on the state age of consent may be 17, so not really an issue. That doenst necessarily make it a good idea but that isnt in the purview of others to decide. People are allowed to make bad decisions. Just because you dont like those decision does not mean you get to harass others for them. There are all kinds of things in the world that perfectly legal but yet also may be a idea, why is this one thing any different than those. For example, If you tried to shame someone like this for gambling in a casino, YOU would be escorted by the police not the gambler
