>>212428671>I can't say I even fully understood the point of Cumberbath character eitherNubar had an affair with Korda's wife and was responsible for her murder as well as being responsible for all the assassination attempts against Korda. In addition, one of the overarching themes of the film is what motivates people with means and power. Korda starts out as an amoral businessman with no hesitations about exploiting, enslaving, and exploiting others to pursue his own goals, even at the apparent cost of his soul. He meets Liesel who is his moral foil, and through their interactions with the other investors in The Scheme, we get little hints at what motivates some of the investors beyond simple financial gain, like how Marseille Bob is inspired to change his mind about investing after Korda's (staged) self-sacrifice. Nubar, is motivated purely by his hatred for Korda and the drive to see 'who can lick whom' and is basically a reflection of the man Korda was on his way to becoming at the beginning of the film, providing a contrast for where Korda ends up at the story's conclusion.
