Season 3 fucking sucked, everything else was good though, they shouldn't have bent the knee to the moneygrabbers and kept it to intended length.

Checked out at the season 2 ending, I hate the forced bullshit shows do where everything is good but they need to create drama to justify another season.

The show is around 70% about characters doing self-improvement. They want to be good at their shitty job and they do get better. 30% is about interpersonal drama. Families that don't get along co-workers having problems with each other, people not communicating. Since S2, they do one long episode with a bunch of guest stars. Those episodes are purely drama and little to do with the restaurant.

Doors and Ice Chips were good episodes though. It was fun to see Carmy and Cousin go completely batshit at each other's throat for a whole month. I also liked Tomorrow a lot but I understand if people think its too self-indulgent, especially with how light the whole season is on plot.

That's my 2nd favorite episode after all 4 seasons, but it's forever tainted by the show giving Marcus and Sidney their negro pass and making Carmy apologize like a little bitch.

I didn't find that anyone was overacting but maybe it depends on your personal experiences. My first girlfriend's family was a fucking mess and there would be shit going on like screaming matches in the kitchen that people in the living room would uncomfortably ignore, or her mom throwing a lamp at someone.

Not all the time but Jamie Lee Curtis was definitely playing someone I knew from my life, with real mental issues, though I suppose it could seem really cringe if you didn't have a personal frame of reference.

Everyone else was great though imo, Richie and Britta had a very sweet moment that made me buy that they really cared about each other. Odenkirk kind of stole the show and he was pretty understated until the last 15 minutes of the episode. Facks were Facks, you love that shit or hate that shit, Sugar was good, shit even Bernthal who I usually think is the weakest think was pretty solid in that episode.

The restaurant stuff is secondary to being a writer mouthpiece, which shit in the Platinum Age of TV didn't have a problem with -- e.g., The Sopranos, The Wire, etc. They managed to be primarily crime dramas with good characters instead of being shallow character studies with the plot and setting being secondary.
