>>212440799I'd compare the books to 4chan. The appeal was "anything can happen." Rowling is a descriptive writer who knows the nouns and verbs and adjectives young readers like. Less so in books 5-7. The feel changed from fun magic boarding school, to Bourne Identity with magic. But books 1-4 are kino and amazing young adult lit. Fwiw I actually had taste in books as a 12-15y.o. There were books I got from the library and hated and didn't finish (like A Wrinkle in Time). Harry Potters 1-4 were fucking good reads. I side-eye people who don't like any of the books.
I can understand if people didn't like the movies. The movies did not do the books justice. I don't have actual quotes but stuff like "Harry paused beside the fireplace in the cozy Gryffindor common room and watched as a silent snow blanketed the outside." Or "Hermione's eyes were reddened and her cheeks were wet as she quickly picked up her books and left the classroom." The movies just can't portray that level of detail and imagination.
