Is everything we see in M3gan secretly a simulation in a Matrix like reality done for prototyping? In M3gan 1 there is a scene where the bully is in the forest and is leaning up against a tree right before he winds up getting chased by M3gan and we clearly see that he has six fingers. Was this just a weird AI fix or was it an Easter egg that was put into the movie to tell us the truth about the M3gan universe?

The first M3gan takes place in 2025, the world of The Matrix is constantly set to take place around 1999. Having robots and AI integrated into people's daily lives would probably make them too aware of the artificial reality they live in and cause them to self-eject.

Remember one of the early versions of the Matrix was supposed to be bliss, the late 90s was probably picked because it was a perfect balance of life being digital enough to be convenient (email), but analogue enough to still be kind of annoying (dial-up). If people are comfortable enough then the mind starts to wander and they question their own reality. It also might cause issues with RAM. Even though the movies give the battery reason for human enslavement, using humans as processing power for a giant organic server farm works better and having people's minds becoming dull because they don't have to work for themselves probably causes issues.
