The Republic in the PT was clearly a critique on Plato's naive vision for the ideal society.
how was RLM too stupid not to notice that?

Have you actually read the Symposium? Because it's not about Plato's version of an ideal society. That would be The Republic.

The Symposium is about more abstract philosophical ideas like the nature of love, not politics.

Midwit retard.

I dunno about all that but as far as RLM goes they just aren't that into Star Wars since they are a bunch of old trekkies. Trekkies often tended to look down on Star Wars fans back in the day and RLM never dropped that habit. And since they are so uninitiated, the prequels just looks like Flash Gordan went off the rails rather than Lucas further developing the setting that the fans have been obsessively analyzing for years.

Mike never played Kotor2 or read the Thrawn trilogy like we all did. To him it's just the fun silly space movies that aren't as serious or thought out as Star Trek.

trek is communist propaganda, does not surprise me that redditors like RLM enjoy a world that is built on pure materialism and utilitarianism but they subvert the viewer and claim that the trek universe is morally and superior to all other forms of society even though the foundation of their society is antithetical to the logic of such a viewpoint made manifest.

Star Wars is all pure idiot plot.
Prequels require the Jedi, in particular Yoda and Obi Wan to be complete and total fucking retards of the highest calibur completely ignoring all the evidence literally being shoved right in front of their fucking faces the entire time. Sheev literally could have told them he was a Sith and outlined his entire plan and they wouldn't take it aboard, because Dooku and others do this literally numerous times.
OT just requires the empire to be retarded. Death Star makes literally no fucking sense. Just yeet asteroids into planets wtf. Not a single grate or gate over a fucking vent? Twice as well?
ST is just slop, not even worth going into.
For all the praise as well, Andor literally requires the characters to just be mostly retarded the entire time and have literally no escape route planned, nor able to destroy evidence remotely and several times, putting forced drama ahead of very basic common sense and self preservation.

>The Republic in the PT was clearly a critique on Plato's naive vision for the ideal society.
No, it clearly never was. Jedi, the wise philosophers, were not the ruling class. They had no influence on the policy making, which was entirely up to the senate, the senate not so different from the Athenian government that was also criticized by Plato. And Lucas has never ever said anything like it, and has never mentioned Plato as his influence. You sound like a Snyder-jeet, pretentious retard, who hasn't even read what he's talking about.
>>212444276
Star Wars is preaching the exact same thing, just wrapped in spiritual shell, idiot. This is the reason why the Jedi are taken as babies, so that they can be trained to not form attachments, because the needs of the galaxy outweigh personal needs of people with great power, the Jedi, that can be compromised and their duty before all life can be jeopardized because of that.

>Symposium is there because it's referencing the nature of love and beauty (Padme-Anakin)
And again, Lucas' philosophy is also completely at odds with Plato's work. Anakin's "love" was selfish, possessive, it was rooted in fear of loss and trauma, it fed his ego, it was all about him. The message of Star Wars is primarily a Buddhist one, the message is to let go of everything, to live without ego, and the ultimate goal is reaching enlightenment, nirvana. In Symposium, Plato suggests that a person is not whole until they find love, that it is a search for other half, for what has been lost, due to the way Gods created humans, who were split from one into many. Whereas Lucas believes that the Jedi are never lonely - they live on compassion, and they love everyone equally, and people love them back.

I agree. As an "inspiration" the symposium is pretty at odds from what it's depicted in the movie.
Symposium fits more the KOTOR storyline, where both Revan and Bastila compliment each other and draw out the best in each other (in the light side ending at least).

Nope. Lucas has books on mythology, history, child psychology, folklore and tales. A lot of inspiration also came from the movies that he liked. Plato was never featured anywhere, never mentioned once by Lucas across decades of interviews, never in any notes, behind the scene books or commentaries. This infographic is a shitpost from cripplechan that gullible retards and children here took seriously. There is a similar one for Alien franchise, where Prometheus crap is presented in the same way, as some 200IQ high art. Which was also a shitpost. But when you act like idiot and have fun doing so, eventually, you will have actual idiots thinking they are in good company.

Mike and co were just upset TPM wasn't tough like the Terminator (as Lucas said) they were not willing to admit anything was good about the prequels or that the Jedi being incompetent was intentional.

The TPM review has a lot of legit complaints since it's a shoddy script with 25 endings going on at once but by 2/3 they were just talking shit for a laugh. They spend 10 minutes complaining Padme wouldn't fall for Anakin, the 6'3 super good looking Jedi with dark triad traits.

Star Trek is a work of pure arrogance. Humanity at its lowest is rescued by alien visitors who give away all the technology humanity needs to overcome scarcity. Humanity returns the favour by putting the capital of their new alliance on Earth and then visiting alien worlds to judge whether these primitives are worthy of the same technology they were given.
They judge entire worlds by spending little time with a few small groups while maintaining a rule not to intervene as if alien intervention isn't the only reason they're not still bombing each other among the ruins of a world war far worse than any alien world judged unworthy is shown to suffer.
The only way humans are able to maintain their facade of moral righteousness is by making every other advanced civilisation into malevolent and stupid strawmen. Other aliens aren't allowed to be technologically and morally better off they must be flawed, in need of our guidance and should seek to join our federation rather than form their own.

Warp travel is literally the only requirement for entry into the federation.

The logic is once you can fling something faster than light across the galaxy, you can also fling that into a planet and destroy it. So if there is incentive to do so, it will happen. Thus there needs to be an interstellar alliance based upon sharing technology to ensure no one has any real incentive to go to war over resources, which are all functionally limitless once space travel is solved. Meaning all war becomes entirely ideological.

have you ever read the original drafts? he (or someone) consolidated a lot.

it's like every teenager's elaborate D&D world. "you guys don't WANT to know about the Kingdom of Bjyern? the First M'agickite War? no?"

in a way i think every author should get ONE (1) free one of these. just some Eragon nonsense. THE GUY MADE THX-1138, that was his 'real' science fiction film.
