Qui-Gon was a maverick for wanting to train Anakin but he still agreed with the Jedi training of the time and the singular most important aspect of the training is ridding yourself of attachment. Qui-Gon would not have allowed Anakin to maintain contact with his mother either.

Qui-Gon Jin adopting Anakin and meeting Padme while Palpatine secretly planned the overthrow of Plagueis is the Star Wars parallell of Caesars adventures where he got caught by pirates, travelled to the lunar priesthoods of Anatolia (Padmes mom), flirted with Cleopatra (Ahsokas mom), before causing the enslavement and death of a young special boys parents whose name was Juba II. Caesar defeated his parents and then adopted him when they "committed suicide" for refusing to be paraded around Rome. Plagueis was the secret alias of Qui-Gon Jin, aka, Caesar larping as a scytho-anatolian (basically being a Yamna-boo) god during his travels of secrecy and exploration.
Plagueis was Qui-Gon's monster-persona.
Maul-Vader was Anakins monster-persona.
Jar-Jar was Palpatines monster-persona.
