i wish we could go back to where things were prosperous and good to the point that having a comfortable life was something that caused existential despair. you really get the feel for that in a lot of the era's films, the matrix, this ,etc. "things are too good and good is boring ahhhh get me out of here!". God, if only.

>having a comfortable life was something that caused existential despair
But the narrator didn't have a comfortable life or existence, he had a horrible work schedule flying from place to place working long hours which fucked up his sleep to the point of extreme insomnia and psychosis . Not only that but his job demanded he covered up horrible accidents for a major auto manufacturer where he got to investigate the death scenes of dozens of people, AND he was a loser with no love interest or friends and came from a broken family who snapped.

Besides having money he was a hollow, miserable, and completely broken person who snapped and started beating the shit out of himself and other people. That's the whole point of the movie, even having money doesn't somehow unfuck your life up. Think of all the miserable fuck ups who are the sons and daughters of billionaires or politicians like Hunter Biden or Uday Hussein. Money does not = fulfilled in life

That's rajio taiso. It's a calisthenics routine for the whole Japanese population designed to keep them healthy. It's intended for the benefit of the people doing it, not to humiliate them, and it's not mandatory.

Most importantly, however, in relation to this particular conversation we're having, the Japanese got the idea from radio calisthenics in the US.

They have the disadvantage of having abusive bosses forcing them to go to after work dinners and if they don't participate they are labeled as antisocial and not a team player and it'll fuck up their career. I worked with a Japanese dude and I told his boss I wanted to invite him to dinner at my place and he asked how he will get back to his work dorm. I guess a taxi because we'll be drinking some wine for dinner so i can'tdrive hom back. Drinking on a Saturday? No. I can't allow that.

I just lied to the dude and said his boss said it was OK because I'd take the blame if he got mad. But nothing came of it.

Schizo nonsense. There are literally dozens of easier and more effective ways to degrade the people in those jobs. A normal 8-hour shift will involve the customers degrading them more than that dance does.
It is dumb and humiliating, but the idea that it's a humiliation ritual and not misguided HR virtue signaling is wrong.

Same thing. Collective punishment probably makes groups stronger. But that’s banned so they do the inverse, collective humiliation to isolate those who aren’t “team players” and make the team players more open to abuse.

You’re just proving you can’t map these concepts.

Men need to work jobs so they can have mating opportunities since 99% of them aren't special looking. Tyler is in the 1% so he doesn't need to work to get laid. He's therefore giving false information to his followers that you don't need to work for this or that but he has his end goal fulfilled already while his followers would not reach that same end-point.

That’s not what it’s implying at all, it’s very Ted Kaczynski in its message. It’s arguing that modern life has ripped all purpose from men’s lives, and they participate in surrogate activities (buying shit, gym bro’ing, climbing the corporate ladder) to cope with their lack of purpose.
It doesn’t do a great job at hitting that home, as it loses its way pretty quickly, and the larping in a bar basement is yet another surrogate activity, and the fag authors personal communist ideology ends up overruling any point he was originally trying to make, but that was the message.

So it doesn't really have anything to do with 'buying the wrong things' or 'money'.

Assuming he lives on an island with no currency, he would still spend time doing things that aren't meaningful to him.
Is that the message? If so, how was it deep? It seemed pretty surface-level and straightforward.

The message wasn’t muddled at all, you’ve just been conditioned to see any criticism of “capitalism” as communist. Tyler was an anarcho-tribalist. He wanted hunter-gathering in the ruins of what he felt was a bullshit civilization. Reminder this is before they started decrypting uncle Ted’s stuff, so that can’t even be listed as an influence.

How does OP know if the message clicks for others or if it was deep? He doesn't.
That's why he tried to discuss it.

> There’s more than just a language barrier
What was it? Cultural difference is not a factor in our case.
>"Working jobs we hate so can buy shit we don't need"
