>>212452320 (OP)As per usual, people don't understand that movies are not intended to be entirely literal. If you take the plot of any fucking movie and put it in the goddamn context of the REAL world, it would be absolutely asinine. That's why it's a fucking MOVIE. It is meant to be exaggerated. It is meant to be hyperbolic. It is meant to be LARGER THAN LIFE. Very few people want to pay money to see movies about the real world. Because the real world is abundantly fucking depressing. It's a confined prison with walls so high that you can't see over them.
Titanic is the definition of escapist entertainment. The entire premise is inherently ESCAPIST. What if we took this horrific tragedy that took the lives of so many people and recontextualized it with a Romeo & Juliet main plot? What if we took an event that had no hope and gave it some?
We now live in an age of people who are not just media illiterate, but are so plain fucking stupid (even dumber than previous generations somehow), that they can't even watch a movie without raging like a petulant child about the most superficial aspects of a narrative. And everyone is to blame.
YMS, RLM, CinemaSins, MauLer, Nostalgia Critic, AVGN, Angry Joe, so on and so forth.
"The sheriffโs intervention comes under the heading of what we have discussed many times before: 'Why donโt they go to the police?' Iโve always replied, 'They donโt go to the police because itโs dull.'" -Alfred Hitchcock
