This movie sucked ass.
I have no explanation for why people claim to like this movie aside from pseuds wanting to impress other pseuds.
The emperor is balls-and-butthole naked. Wes Anderson is a hack.
Fuck this movie.

Someone for the love of God please explain to me why you like this movie. I won't attack you or argue, I just need to understand.
I don't see how the shot composition was anything to write home about either.

No, you retard, it's because people praise things about this movie that simply are not praiseworthy. It's exceedingly obvious that a significant amount of praise this flick gets is people trying to have the "right" taste.

Mine being findeth itself inexorably subjugated unto the most acrimonious and vituperative anathematization of this particular ontological manifestation, whereupon the phenomenological apparatus of my consciousness doth suffer the most grievous affliction of malevolent antipathy, such that the very essence of my sentient apprehension remaineth perpetually ensconced within the labyrinthine machinations of execrable detestation, thereby engendering a most profound and irrevocable commitment to the systematic repudiation of said existential particularity through the inexorable operation of my psychical faculties in their most vehement and implacable disposition of categorical abhorrence.

The artificial sets were used sparingly in his earlier films. The stories and characters feel more realistic because of this.

Look - I would definitely watch Rushmore, and if you don't like his earlier films, the following films just get worse in those aspects.

That's the only good thing about GBH. Cinematography and direction are on point. It's shot well and the are some cool blends of live action and stop motion. Look at the some of the behind the scenes. The story and characters are dogshit boring, run of the mill twee, and uninspired which is why I hate it.
TRT has great characters, ones that you actually feel for and that instantly recognizable Wes direction before he went too far. Got that, Coltrane?

Specifically it's about family dynamics and how the past affects the present, and dealing with belonging and death.
Not sure how you walked away from the film seething.

Reasons why I liked Royal Tennenbaums:
>I was 16
>Overall good soundtrack
>Good use of Elliott Smith
>The Tennenbaums feel very similar to Salinger's Glass family
>Pagoda scenes
>It's quite quotable
Having said that, I have not seen it in like 20 years.

I liked Rushmore when it came out when i was in the 8th grade or so, but never liked a single other Wes Anderson movie that came out after that. I’d have to go back to Royal Tenenbaums, didn’t like it when I was a teen when it came out but maybe I’d like it better now who knows I really don’t remember much it of it today. I do like me some Gene Hackman (an actor I didn’t appreciate as a kid) so I might have to give it a rewatch

iy's style over substance in a way that's self-aware and wes anderson is good at it. it can be annoying because it's basically the director going "oo la la don't i have the most *immaculate* taste?" but the movies are good if you can get over that

It's my firm conviction that Eli Cash is a Cormac McCarthy parody.

Yeah, his cinematography is nice, but his writing is obnoxious and for some reason he encourages wooden acting so it would look more quirky.

With a proper scriptwriter I think he would make much better stuff, but he painted himself into corner of his "style"

He usually works with a co-writer. Tenenbaums was written with Owen Wilson and he's worked multiple times each with Noah Baumbach and Roman Coppla
