it's literally generations of passing down inheritance and nepotism
no one who owns giant homesteads or farms in rural areas got their on their on merit. in fact, it's very common for parents to build houses and give land to their children so that they never leave and live there forever

Reminder that ranchers free load off of public land yet are the most obscenely territorial cunts when it comes to the two acres they can barely afford. I used to deal with these faggots back when I was interning at Fish and Wildlife. Never met a more entitled group of cunts in my life.

Montana kinda sucks. I mean like around Kalispell/Glacier is ridiculously beautiful but everywhere else is full of methed-out white trash with 15 delapitated trailers on their shitty overgrown property.

Butte is so polluted from drilling that birds literally die from flying over the water. The entire eastern half of Montana is flat, ugly and full of Indian reservations that give new meaning to poverty. Not to mention the wild fires that never seem to stop.

that is nepotism. you are being favored based on blood and the merit of your predecessors rather than your own merit. in fact, a common practice is that many of those loans will get taken out in the parent's name because the son usually has no value of his own.

You need to read "Centennial" by James Michener (a CIA spook). It's explained very well there on an example of a "fictional" town in Colorado.

tl;dr you steal shit every year from people who struggle and scheme your way into becoming too big to fail

yes, foretelling success and reliability on "vibes" as opposed to something with tangible proof is nepotism lol. i'm not saying you're an asshole if you do this, nor do i think you are, but i feel as if the negative connotation of the word simply has people up in arms at this objective fact.

Eh Helena is alright. It's mostly government jobs that don't pay great and the population is like 30K so it's probably smaller than what you expect. Lots of angry poor people who don't like outsiders. Which I can't blame them I guess, since they made it impossible to live in their own town.

>foretelling success and reliability
But the idea of a loan is that you're going to get your money back plus some regardless of how successful the specific venture ends up being, so why wouldn't you loan to someone who you already know will be able to get you the initial principal plus interest? I just thinking you're really stretching the definition.

I've always had a dream of moving out into the countryside and living in a farm or a small secluded village, somewhat off-grid away from civilization with a family. (think like picrel)
But I've always been a city slicker, and I know nothing about farming, or anything practical for that matter. I'm unfit as hell and I never even really did any proper physical work my whole life. I reckon that people who work on farms have always been born into it. Is it just a shitty pipe dream that's completely unrealistic for a city slicker?

the father is the reliable one in these situations, that must be the main thing to remember.
the only thing the bank knows about the son is that he is related to the father. they give him the loan based on that alone. that's where the definition comes in (good 'ol boy)
this is why a lot of fathers who own homesteads like these (at least before they die) take out loans in their own names to finance the son having his own place on the father's land. the father or whatever male ancestor who built their lives were always the reliable ones.
think of it like a trustfund baby, but they wear cowboy boots
