>Normies won't "get it" or care for a modern version, so who would it be for?

The main theme of newspaper conglomerates running the show behind the scenes and getting America into foreign wars for personal profit is extremely relevant nowadays so its a shame you'd say they wouldn't get it.

While Tomorrow Never Dies and Citizen Kane are vastly different films in terms of genre and style, they do share a significant thematic connection: the critique of media manipulation and the dangers of unchecked media power.
Here's how they connect:
Citizen Kane: Charles Foster Kane, the titular character, builds a massive media empire and uses his newspapers to manipulate public opinion and influence events. The film explores how this power, born from the media, ultimately leads to his downfall and isolation, serving as a cautionary tale about the corrupting influence of wealth and control over information.
Tomorrow Never Dies: The villain, Elliot Carver, is a media mogul who utilizes his global media empire to manufacture headlines and orchestrate conflicts, particularly attempting to instigate a war between China and the UK. This showcases the potentially dangerous and far-reaching consequences of media manipulation on an international scale.
In essence, both films illustrate how those who control the media can wield immense power, capable of shaping narratives, influencing perceptions, and ultimately, even creating conflict for personal gain. Both films warn against the dangers of unquestioning trust in media outlets and highlight the potential for manipulation when power and media are concentrated in the hands of a few.
Therefore, while their narratives and overall themes diverge, the shared element of media manipulation as a tool for power and control forms a strong thematic link between these two films.

Citizen Kane has a more direct real world link because itโ€™s about Randolph Hearst getting us into war with Spain over the USS Maine which would have been recent in the minds of the audience at the time (1898).

I can't believe no one has mentioned this yet. the guy citizen kane is based on, has been dead for fucking decades and barely anyone knows who he is. the remake would unironically be some social media mogul like zuckerberg, and the film would just change too much
