probably the best close quarters combat depicted on film.
the second one was more politically minded rather than combat focused. dealing with corruption of the system and shit.
apparently the director didnt like how the public responded so well to nasimodo(sp?) the main character, who is basically a fascist that takes things into his own hands. but that was dumb of him to expect that he wouldve be beloved, because he's killing a bunch of favela drug dealers who everyone hates.
the director was basically wanting to paint it that both police and drug dealers are bad, and that violence isnt the answer. but the violent cathartic nature of the movie feels good, and seeing drug dealers die violently feels good. which the lefty directory supposedly didnt want. but thats all pretty strange because its so good in its tactical shooting and realism.
i could be making all this up

Idk, I feel like all the subtleties about the first one got rekd cuz everyone outside Brazil, most importantly the film festival circuit, labeled the first one as pro fascist and you can feel the director took that to heart.
Anyhow, it's also a cool movie, but way less gun ho and military porned.

Neto should be the one on the cover, as he represents BOPE's soul.

The second one is like joker 2, a director trying to destroy what he felt was a misunderstood message.

Carioca here. The movie isn't as realistic as people think, bope is just the elite militia that is used when some favela warlord gains too much power, they even side with weaker favela warlords to take down a bigger one. But the director for obscure reasons portrayed bope as this elite squad from the goverment, the last knights, renegated antiheroes etc etc. The relation of Power in RJ is much more horizontal than vertical, an average officer or a drug dealer can have more power than a captain from bope, tittles mean nothing. How did the leftsist author make the most "pro fascist" movie to ever exist I don't know, maybe he thought the masses would "get" it better in more classical structure or it would be boring in a cinematical pov.

I felt cheated by 1 and never bothered watching 2. I was told this would be kino where death squads put the hurt on criminal scum but instead it was like 80% police guy goes to college and puts up with his faggy liberal friends.

1 is pure kino, 2 is a good political thriller but not as good a film as 1
fucking rip you know who in 2, what a stupid way to go out.
