Don't just make a movie set in the Half-Life universe with Half-Life characters and creatures, but take what elements make the game stand out and translate those into film.
I think it should focus on an immersive style of cinematography, like long takes and maybe even POV shots in the style of Peep Show and Hardcore Henry. Gordon can talk but he should be an extreme everyman, like literally just a complete random dude who isn't cool and isn't confident and everyone just kinda tells him what to do and orders him around and he constantly gets talked over and shut down when he tries to stand up for himself, he basically always draws the short end of the stick because he's the one who is wearing the hazard suit and is trained to use it so he gets shoved into every dangerous situation. Also maybe use the hangover idea which was how Valve originally was going to explain why Gordon doesn't talk. It should be kind of darkly comedic, and more gritty and grounded instead some kind of 80's action movie, don't use too many monsters from the game, only what is strictly necessary (enemy variety is great in a game, not really needed in a movie so trying to shove everything in would quickly turn into glup shitto nonsense). It should be a relatively simple character focussed action movie about a group of survivors trying to deal with an insane situation, all are coping in their own ways (think of all the scientists and guards you find in the game, some of them just camp in a hiding spot, some are more pro-active, some are freaking out about the scientific implications). Half Life could make for a kino movie but sadly you need more of an experimental, indie minded filmmaker to pull it off and not the kind of JJ Abrams type who probably would get actually approached with this kind of project
