It's about transhumanism. The movie's a bit stilted, as if not all of the screenplay was filmed (we never see the contest) but there is a commentary on humans driving evolution after an implied catastrophe (the stranded ships etc)

Howard Shore's score is so good in this, I actually love this film. The theme reminds me of glass where they cant have gods among men etc but they dont want the nu evolved humans who can digest plastic waste bars for some reason because its going down the wrong path. Its cool and it will happen. The old gen wont want better people so will always try and stop them unless its like gits where any human can blend with machines but this is evolved humans with new organs etc so only a select few can be like that thus jelly overlords kill them. Also gorgous cinematography in this film.
