It wasn't. It was great. Everyone expected continuation of the story where Zion fights the machines in some bullet time epic battle that was going to restart the franchise. But they made a meta movie instead where they shit on the concept of reboots and end it all on some sappy, tongue-in-cheek romantic bullshit JUST TO LAUGH AT YOU.

WB forced them to do another movie even though they didn't want to. They told the Wachoskis "either you do them or we'll do it without you".

They are true artists, they could have ruined it all for a new trilogy cashgrab or they could have cashed out like Lucas but they didn't. I have huge respect for them.

Matrix 4? The movie couldn't make up it's mind if it's supposed to be meta humor or a serious sequel.
Worst was that the producers were TV producers and not used to shooting proper action scenes. If you look closely you can see they're not doing kung fu, they're flailing around and it gets disguised with a thousand cuts.

I would have liked the last Matrix more if they dropped all the lazily done action scenes and just made it a psychological thriller with Neo trying to figure out why he's in the Matrix again. The meta commentary about having to do another sequel for the movie studio was interesting.

The point is that if you are a true fan, you shouldn't watch Matrix 4. The trilogy is finished. There is no more story to tell.
The movie is a big fuck you to WB for forcing them to do another one, it was meant to flop as hard as possible so WB doesn't ever touch Matrix again.
