There used to be a lot of contests for fans to get cameos in movies. Why don’t they do that type of marketing anymore?

If you do the contest, they HAVE to get their role, and they HAVE to make final cut, even if momentarily, or your credibility takes a hit and may harm the project, even your career(s). This puts a lot of power in the hands of the fan, whether they're conscious of that or now, and they can fuck with things like production schedules, etc. Just off the top of my head.
