Everytime there were pirate crew captures, if you check the historical records, like half the crew is made up of freed slaves. It happened so frequently that there was specific protocol in place with how to deal with it.
I forget exactly what the protocol was but I believe that the slaves were treated as not culpable due to the state not recognising them as people, and returned if their owner could be identified or just sold to the highest bidder. But yeah, slave ships were easy targets since they often had a lot of valuables, little defences and the boats were perfect for pirate use. The slaves made for easy recruits.
Women are less clear.
There's obviously the case of Anne Bonny. Pirates definitely weren't any type of feminists. But they were egalitarians. They believed in fairness and brotherhood. Female pirates were extremely rare for a reason, but on the mainland I'm pretty sure they were treated with more respect and agency than society at the time

That's actually mostly all propaganda. Pirates were primarily focused on robbing vessels in the seas they frequented. Pirates typically stick to the sea around them. I don't think any pirates operated across multiple seas, nevermind all 7. Very few pirates murdered people as that would attract undue attention (and it's not murder if you're engaged in a battle). I don't know of any cases of caribbean pirates raping anyone (not saying it never happened, just that it wasn't their objective)

I wouldn't call them wholesome.
They were disorganised revolutionaries (depending on which pirates we're talking about). During the golden age (most famous, Caribbean, early 1700s), they were mostly made up of sailors and outlaws who didn't agree with the way the empire was expanding and conducting itself. Rather than live under a king they didn't like and sucking up to cowardly nobles, they figured they would rather live free on the seas.
On their boats, they had a basic form of democracy where every crewmember got a vote. Everyone got a share of any loot. I think (would have to check) that everyone got an equal share regardless of rank. When they captured ships, they typically offered jobs to all the crew they captured. Some pirates were very vicious and would just murder/torture everyone, but they weren't the norm.

Because they lived a life of adventure, with arguably justified intentions, there was a lot of public interest. So the empire got very worried and launched a shitton of propaganda to demonise them and make citizens fear and hate them instead.

You're thinking or privateers. A lot of privateers became pirates after the wars they were fighting ended.
If I remember right, their governments betrayed them and basically threw them under the bus for the sake of a peace treaty which is why they felt such a strong dislike for their countries.
But not all pirates were former privateers. And it depends which region/time you're talking about. I think that type of pirate was more common in the late 1600s (eg Captain Kidd).
But people like Blackbeard, John Rackham, Charles Vane and Anne Bonny have no known ties to privateering.

Yes and no. Letters of Marque (licenses to commit “legal” piracy) were highly sought after. But once the countries that were at odds with each other made peace, or the contract ended, or there just weren’t any being handed out, the pirates still had to eat so they robbed & plundered any ship worth taking.
