I grew up on the Batman, Spiderman and X-men animated series but haven't watched them in 20 years. What's actually worth checking out ? I just downloaded the 90s Hulk and Silver Surfer and Gargoyles too. Any other toons worth watching? How was the Death of Superman films and the Dark Knight Returns? Animation is pretty important to me too. If there's no soul I'm not really interested

Pretty much all of the DCAU is good except the Zeta Project. Even the new Fatal Five movie was pretty good. Spectacular Spider-Man is great too, many do not like the art style but the animation is super fluid.
Death of Superman is pretty bland. Dark Knight Returns is a decent adaptation alongside Batman Year One. Avoid the DC animated universe (the one based on the Nu52) and the Tomorrowverse
