They do bullshit at the French Laundry (i think Carmy works at briefly) like a soup that takes 40 people to make over 5 days or some shit. Basically anything to add complexity for complexity sake. Almost like a 720p TV vs a 4k vs OLEd whatever. So you just hire more staff and better ingredients like "Orwellian mushrooms" and then put it on the menu for snobs to feel impressed with themselves.

I tried watching the first two seasons but you can tell the whole show was written for zoomer attention spans. Everything is signposted non-stop and key points are repeated multiple times, just in case you were staring at your phone for the last two minutes. There's some good themes but the execution isn't great.

It's almost schizophrenic how every other character in this series does this. Their voices climb and they stammer and it's just LE NERVOUS BREAKDOWN that's all the rage in television lately. You think it's a Berzzatto family condition but Sidney has it, Richie has it. The only thing that comes easily out of their mouths is "fuck". The creators of this show think they can get away with calling it a comedy when a room full of people is screaming fuck at each other while refusing to listen. It's exhausting.

Nah it's just set in Chicago and the protagonist is trying to be less of a dysfunctional mess, so sometimes he overcompensates and is kind of a doormat.
Characters like Sydney (the federally mandated black wammen) is rightly critiqued for her flaws, namely that she's bossy and impatient.
It's a great show, even if I have fun shitting on it too.
