I used to apologise, because his movies and ideas were far and away better than Gisnep's, but he also made the decision to give them the reigns. I was at an after hours party in Modesto, California last night and Lucas was there.

He was trying to make that WITH Disney anon. He wrote up a bunch of treatments as part of the sale and assumed Disney was gonna honor that part of the agreement. They didn't. Did no one else actually read Bob Iger's book? And I mean actually read the book, not just getting the highlights from Youtubers/clickbait "news" sites.

Look the reason why George sold was because he was about to turn 70 and had no one to inherit the company he'd spent his entire life building. None of his kids wanted to run Lucasfilm after he was gone and Disney happened to be the only people willing to fit the billion dollar bill. Besides he seems happy now, he's spent the last 10+ years making his museum with the money which seems to be his passion now. Plus he'd spent over 20 years of his life making Star Wars (about a decade-ish for each trilogy plus all the years he spent on Clone Wars and the abandoned Underworld series) I think he was kinda done with it

He could have appointed an actual competent successor to continue running it as an independent company. If he felt like Lucasfilm couldn't stay afloat on its own, he could have sold to another company like 20th Century Fox, whom he had relationship with (being the distributors of the original six films). If nothing else, he could have sold to Disney and strictly stipulated that a Sequel Trilogy had to be produced with his input.

Instead he did none of those things and torched his own legacy. And for that, he deserves the upmost contempt.

He gave Anakin a Togruta padawan nobody had ever heard of because he wanted more money. He made Obi fight Dooku even though they didn't know each other on AOTC because he wanted more money.

I can excuse some bad shit about the prequels because the worldbuilding was awesome, and ultimately they were fun movies with amazing characters and settings that tied into an overarching vision, but TCW was a CASHGRAB that ruined the canon established on the six movies. And I can't just blame Filoni for that, a lot of the ideas came from Lucas himself.

He also created the Ewoks to sell toys, this is known, but this wasn't as bad as TCW. Still, it points to the pattern of greed.

2. He let control of his baby go to Disney because he sold out. Plain and simple. B-b-but he gave Disney a plot outline is cope. He sold out. He allowed Disney to nuke the EU, which was a huge betrayal to the millions of fans that grew up with this shit. He wanted to cash out. So that's what he will be remembered as now, the greedy creator of a slop franchise to sell action toys and not an artist. He was already a millionaire but he wanted more.
He's a sellout.
