It's clearly been on a decline into shock/political pandering bullshit. No show has ever gotten better after that, so either you're invested enough to watch it anyways or you aren't. It won't get better.
It's another instance of writers putting everything they had into making S1 stand out and seem cool just to pander and coast for as many seasons as they can get renewed for.

I had the same problem with Invinsible. Couldn’t get through episode 1. The memes made it look like absolute cinema. It’s too much mystery porn. What type of masochists watch that shit when the real world is already ass. I rather watch cozy capes like the new Superman

Same. A friend was raving about it. All I saw was a DEI festival with the usual plotlines. Also very boring.

Season 4 is by and far the worst season of The Boys by a wide margin. It never gets better, its just filler made to avoid ending the series too soon. You can watch the first episode and the last episode of the season and genuinely not miss a thing. The worst part is that the virus plot introduced in Gen V barely progressed at all, and it was done in a way less interesting manner since the main cast already has too much plot armor.
There's also too much fucking sideplots that lead to nowhere. Frenchie is the worst in that regard because it's another dumb love triangle that is dropped with no real conclusion. Huey's dad dying was sad and I did like him reconnecting with his mom but it didn't add much. They also pussied out way too much on having Homelander becoming even more of a villain because for some reason they still want to make him sympathetic.
