Disagree unless you solely focus on their personal lives (most writer's personal lives are boring tho), sooner or later you're going to have to have a "artist makes the art they're best known for" scene. For musicians, easy. Show Beethoven at his piano, frustration on his face. He crumples up and throws aside the paper he's been annotating and begins to play almost at random, improvising, when all of a sudden...DUN DUN DUN. and a beatific smile of inspiration lights up his face. Writers? You have to show some guy scribbling while an actor reads the most famous part in a hushed voice impressed with itself. Blech. My Lafcadio Hearn biopic mostly focuses on his search for a "homeland" and his relationships with his wife, his neighbors, and students btw.
