Frank Herbert's development in the books actually does a lot to make the story MORE nonsensical, because he himself didn't really think his ideas through properly.
I don't need to know about Frank's dumb attempt to explain why everyone uses swords even though technology to bypass shields with projectiles is also used constantly. skipping most of the lore is one of the reason Lynch's version is the best.
