No. The word immigrant isn't said once.
The "Israel" allusions are weak.
Luthor is controlling Boravia, so unless retards think Israel is controlled by a tech mogul, there isn't much similarity.

No he's just using the guy.
Essentially Lex wants control of Borovia to start a war, therefore getting Supes involved, and getting the government go-ahead to neutralize Superman.
The Donner Luthor wanted Superman to die so he could get land.
Gunn's Luthor wants land so he can kill Superman.

In exchange for getting Superman out of his hair the President is going to give half the country he invades to Luthor to create some techno utopia with him as King, but Luthor reveals that was just a bonus and he mostly just wanted to contrive a reason to kill Superman.

he's in like 3 scenes.
>Metamorpho
Maybe like 5-10 minutes? He's in the prison scene with Superman and when they escape, and then comes back later for a small scene to tie up his story. But neither of them are in it that much. Mr. Terrific is the most prominent non Superman superhero in the movie.
>Batman
No references whatsoever aside from one freeway sign that says "X miles to Gotham"

>Are they evil?
Presumably. Their message is uncorrupted and it says they sent Superman to conquer the Earth and BREED as many human women as he can. It's possible Luthor fabricated it but the movie seems to lean fairly heavily on the idea that he didn't and goes moreso with the message that "The Kents are his real parents".

Uhh honestly I forget since he's in the movie so little it's just a brief hologram, basically a cameo and it focuses on his face. I think he had like a circlet thing?

>white martians
Nope
>Other DC chararcters?
Aside from the ones in the trailer. i.e Engineer, Mr. Terrific, Metamorpho, Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, Rick Flagg Sr.

Peacemaker has a brief cameo on an interview show, and Supergirl shows up at the end to pick up Krypto and tease her movie. You can also maybe say that the clone of Superman is potentially Bizarro, because he is a dumb clone of Superman, but he doesn't speak and is sucked into the pocket dimension prison at the end, so he could come back as more comic accurate Bizarro.

They're not evil, but they want Clark to fuck women and reform the species. They want him to be good on Earth, but rule with an iron fist.

I have a similar story with picrel of all things.
A couple days before I went to watch it I got into a horrific, near-fatal car accident where it was a complete miracle I was left unscathed. On top of the fact that I had been hiding my plan to join the French Foreign Legion after graduating college from my family; I was really just crippled by stress and disassociation for those couple of days. Then I watched picrel, which was a quality anime kino about overcoming trauma and becoming an independent, well-adjusted adult; and it gave me the courage to both not be bitchmade by that accident and move on as well as finally give me the courage to tell my family about my plans.

I was in a lengthy thread on /int/ last year talking all about my time there if you'd like to see. If I were to sum it up, it was like Spirited Away mixed with fFMJ. It was the best experience of my life so far and my high point where I felt the happiest and best-adjusted.

Part of why I liked the movie was how believable Lex's plan was, minus the obviously sci-fi elements.
Public manipulation, slander, using all his wealth to coerce the public.
He genuinely just hates Superman for being better than him.
Not because he's a god, or anything.
He just makes Lex look weak and that drives him mad.

Personally I think the only thing you really need to know about Superman lore is the basic shit everyone knows.
>He disguises himself as Clark Kent with glasses
>He's sent from Krypton as a baby, raised by Kents who are farmers in Kansas
And that's more or less explained anyway.

For a non comic fan, it would be difficult to understand characters outside of Supes, Lois, and Lex.
A solid amount of focus is on Mr. Terrific and Jimmy Olsen. A less amount is on other minor superheroes.
Would you enjoy it?
I think you'll like the Superman vs Lex moments. Maybe even the Clark and Lois moments.
And I hate to say this because I liked the movie, but it feels like one made for comic fans. Not laymen.

No. The Kaiju you see in the trailers Superman does try to avoid killing, and spends most of that fight flying around saving random people while the Justice Gang kill it. Superman says he wanted to try to lure it away to study it or euthanize it less painfully if they had to, to which GL calls him a wuss and that's basically the end of it.

The evil dictator guy of the foreign country is confident Hawkgirl won't kill him because she's like Superman, to which she replies
>I'm not Superman
and then drops him to his death.

I never understand why movies do this.
Why have a Bizarro-like character in a Bizarro-like role, but NOT make it Bizarro?
I don't think it'd necessarily make the movie better or worse, it's just baffling to me, like if instead of Jimmy they had a Jimmy-like character that served the exact same role Jimmy could.

The issue with origins is how they drag them out a lot to the point that it almost separates into two movies. Origins are fine when done correctly and well integrated into the overall movie. Batman 89 is a good example of this, it covered his orgin during the movie, but didnt spend the first hour+ doing so.

This is true. I thinks origins are necessary when rebooting most superhero characters but you don't need to show all of it over and over. I liked how The Batman 2022 did it with integrating the death of Bruce's parents into the storyline that way you still get the origin but also don't need to see them get shot in the alley for the 10th time.

Basically the Superman clone is super dumb, and Lex has devised a bunch of preprogrammed moves for him to use that he's gotten from studying Superman's fighting style and how to counter it. So Superman will go in for a bunch and Lex or one of his workers will shout "7B" over the comm, and 7B on the monitor will show a preprogrammed move of the Superclone dodging the punch and grabbing his arm or something like that. Final fight has Luthor shouting "4-A" aggressively a bunch of times, which is the code for Superclone to punch Superman in the face.

Having him team up with Luthor to kill the Justice Gang and eventually Superman while also quietly subverting and backstabbing each other would actually be an interesting premise and sort of fit into the "Dark Triad v. Nice Guy" angle of Lex vs. Superman.

Pretty good. One of the highlights of the movie imo. Somewhere inbetween Smallville Luthor and Hackman Luthor. Trailers honestly are really weird, because they splice together his lines from different parts of the movie out of context to try to create a monologue.

Like him saying

>The most powerful man in the world..

Is actually him talking about Ultraman, trying to sell his new security force to the DoD in a board meeting.

idk. There's this running gag where Luthor's girlfriend Eve is obsessed with Jimmy, while Jimmy really isn't all that into her and he has to begrudgingly text her to get information out of her so I assume she's talking about that.

Zod can take a break. Although Snyder was right that finding the next proper villain is difficult and things should probably be taken more extraterrestrial because he’s just too powerful of a character. The two that come to mind are Brainiac and Metallo. But even with this version of Superman I don’t think characters like Toy Man and Weather Wizard can be done without blatantly nerfing Superman or making him stupid.

If this is the case, that's a dumb angle. Hell just glance at the Superman Smashes The Klan threads on /co/ (arguably some of the only quality humor threads on that queer-infested shithole devoid of taste) if you want and you can see the endless hilarity produced by the idea of Superman having a massive, steel-hard cock and comically insatiable sex drive once in the mood.

Kinda based.
Also, is Lex's girlfriend funny? Critics seem to be glazing her as a high point in the film and I can't really trust their taste in humor when it comes to kino.
Also, I just found out that picrel is Jimmy and now I'm more interested in watching the kino given they didn't make him Black like in that shitty cartoon /co/ circlejerks.

>Also, is Lex's girlfriend funny?
She's not in it that much but yeah. Most of her humor is her taking selfies while crazy stuff happens in the background or her dynamic with Jimmy, where she's super into him and he's awkwardly not that into her. There's a decently funny gag where she decides to betray Lex and send a bunch of "info she has on Luthor" to Jimmy. She manages to hit send right before Luthor finds her and the call drops, and when Jimmy opens the text it appears it's just a bunch of instagram tier selfies of herself (Lois later realizes that in the background of the shots there's Luthor's plans in the background).

There's no Superman dick jokes that's completely fabricated.

I personally thought so, yes. The flying is a lot of fun, and Superman is a bit more creative in beating his clone than punching him through a million buildings and then snapping his neck.
>destruction or collateral damage
They clearly took this complaint to heart because Superman spends a lot of time saving people. That entire Kaiju fight he spends saving people(including a squirrel) while the Justice Gang kill it, and he stops it from destroying buildings when it falls over. There's some destruction when Luthor splits the city in half with his black hole science nonsense to lure in Superman, but Superman shows up to lift a building to allow a woman evacuating to safely drive off as seen in the trailer, and then stops Luthor and is helping to the put the city back together in the post credits.

Not really, no. The trailers don't show much of the 3rd act at all which is where most of the Superman fights take place. There's a gimmick where the Ultraman character is more or less being voice coached by Lex Luthor, who has studied all of Superman's moves and how to counter them which I thought was cool.

Snyder doesn't cut his own movies for theatrical releases, which i find really dumb. He leaves that on the studio's hands.
That's why he got on the contract that he's allowed a director's cut for the DVD releases where he has complete control.

Honestly he's not consistent with it even in the comics it depends on the writer, as you can expect from any character as old as him. Sometimes he'll kill reluctantly, like Byrne had him kill an alternate universe Zodd, but other times he'll be absolutely NEVER KILL EVER boyscout even to insane alien invaders, like how Waid writes him. Personally I don't mind him killing Zod, though I do thing MoS was way too dour overall and ending it with a brutal neck snap contributed to that.

Gunn would just be following the natural progression of the old Superman movies, which is what normalfags and oldfags want anyway (especially if WB wants to juice up BO numbers and hype for the sequel).

honestly having seen the movie it's even weirder comparing them. like the arrest scene. Superman just turns himself in to try to find out where Luthor took his dog, not for any noble sacrifice reason like Snyder had him do.

>bvs and man of steel are great
BVS was a movie so bad I credit it with birthing the critic in me and giving me a sense of taste when I was a young teenager. Granted I haven't watched it since 2016 but given I remember it vividly well compared to other stuff I watched at that time I'd have a hard time imagining it somehow aged well even with the ultimeme edition; especially when there was shit on at that time like Daredevil and more recent stuff like The Penguin that did what it attempted to do far, far better and with a miniscule budget.
Man Of Steel I haven't watched since I was a kid and remember it being decent but unnecessarily convoluted and strayed way too far from the established Superman setting/lore to a degree of mockery (Costner doing his damnedest to play sociopath and the Fortress of Solitude being an Obilvion spaceship being examples I remember thinking were stupid).

Make him charismatic as fuck unlike the Shannon one (who did perform one all said, but he was still a freaky little autist). I really don't care if they make him a total Viltrumite I MUST BREEEED rip off. I would even be interesting in something novel like Superman gets him depowered but also redeems him vs. Phantom Zone panishment. Cool sequence would be Superman banished to PZ at some point so he's surviving and has to be some clever way to get him out so it's cathartic when Superman actually gets back to Earth and punches Zod with the Williams theme after seeing him basically have free reign to do whatever he wants in Superman's absense

Daredevil and specially The Penguin suck. You must have awful fucking taste in movie.
You also seem to know very little about comics.
The Fortress of Solitude is based on Birthright and 2000s era Fortress, for example. In the comics they even relocated it to the Amazon jungle.

I think for a lot of people killing Zod was the cherry on top of the stuff they didn't like. The movie made a lot of dumb mistakes, like they had 9/10 x 100 in downtown Metropolis and Superman cracks wise with Lois in the aftermath rather than being horrified and distraught, he simply gives Zod a weird glare as he's breaking down rather than something more interesting like trying to talk to him whilst containing his anger/grief over the destruction he caused, seems utterly heedless of the collateral in Metropolis their extremely boring fight caused, etc, etc.

It's not that I think it'll disappear, rather that I'm tired of the cookie-cutter, mass-produced MCU-model superhero movie that's been bog standard. Superhero stuff made before the genre became dominant after 2008 was far more varied and interesting, and I hope that the genre no longer being dominant would result in that creativity returning; much like what happened with Westerns and Action movies before.

I was 11 when MoS came out and 14 when BvS came out. Liked both movies. These characters aren’t that complicated. Superhero movies are just action movies with some fairy dust of them. You have be like really into silver age superman to find those movies irredeemable or “edgy”. I remember not liking the Affleck casting, wanted Nolan like any other kid but Affleck hit the ground running in BvS. Obviously you should rewatch those movies to gain an original comprehensive opinion. But if you’re anything like other people I’ve seen you won’t rewatch because you’re scared you’ll like it. Not like you have to love it or anything.

Oh, yeah MCU slop will probably be toned down a bit. They released 3 MCU movies this year and 2 shows. I can't imagine that level of content keeps being churned out. Reportedly the DCU only plans 1 movie and 1 show a year, and will vary directors and genres according to Gunn so hopefully they stick to that and it doesn't all feel like the same mass produced slop.

Superhero movies are risky volatile endeavors. We aren’t going to pretend that <2008 capeshit was bliss. Reaves Superman, 80’s Batman, X-Men, F4, Tobey’s Spiderman all collapsed for one reason or another.

>These characters aren’t that complicated.
That's my problem, Snyder very desperately wants you to think these characters are "deep" without actually putting in any of the effort or worldbuilding to do so. If it were just a straight-up Dark Knight Returns adaptation, that would be great; but it isn't.
>Superhero movies are just action movies with some fairy dust of them
Some are and some aren't, it all depends on the type of hero and the type of story you want to tell. It's very obvious to me judging by what Snyder says about his movies and what the Indians who worship him say about them that he very much wants you to take his movies seriously and at face value, which I do (and think they're really shitty as a result, especially when compared to the types of movies he wants his to be compared to).
>I remember not liking the Affleck casting
Because he is a middle-aged alcoholic with a beer gut who has no screen presence or charisma at all in stark contrast to Bale who has it in spades despite the meme voice?
>you won’t rewatch because you’re scared you’ll like it
No, I won't rewatch it because I grew out of 2010s Superhero movies years ago and have an intense, deep-seated resentment for their impact/influence on the American film industry and popular culture whether it be Snyderslop or MCU crap. I won't watch that shit again until I reach middle age and start feeling nostalgic for it given it'll tragically inevitably be better than whatever Indian AI atrocities will be passing as "film" by then.

I found it my biggest gripe with the film. Gunn cited Birthright as a major inspiration, and in that story a similar beat happens. But it's revealed to be a falseflag from Lex.

In the movie, we have Lex and Terrific repeatedly say its legit. But they confirm it so hard, in my mind, it makes me think theres room for it to be retconned/expanded upon in the Supergirl movie, or something? It just didn't sit well with me. Maybe I'm coping - who knows.

Maybe it's because I never cared for his dual heritage thing to begin with. Superman never knew his parents, and has absolutely no memory of them or Krypton. Krypton culture is as foreign to him when he first discovers it as it would be to you or me. You could make him a human who just got the same powers in a freak accident and personality wise he'd be the same person. Supergirl, or Martian Manhunter, or Starfire or whatever makes more sense to do an immigrant conflicted alien heritage storyline with than Superman imo.

I liked MoS better

>The Els are pushed under the bus in favor of the Kents. Els are the evil parents
>Theres a big nothing burguer to Lois in the third act, she pilots a ship with the Daily crew just to write a article
> Overly emotional Superman whom Lois almost broke up with
> Forced "No one was hurt"/"place was evacuated" when shit would clearly have one casuality at least
>Inferior action sequences to MoS
>No memorable soundtrack
>Weak Superman
>All major action sequences was showed in the trailers
>Dumbest Lex possible
>Superman kills Ultraman and some heroes killed
>Almost the same plot as MoS and BvS, differences is DCEU Superman has more diginity

Felt like Gun tries to overcompansate for MoS

I remember there was something from the silver age where he was constantly shaking his head at such speeds it didn’t register to the human eye. He did that only as Clark.

It's not really that hard to do a workaround to show that Jor-El isn't le bad
>Krypton is going to shit
>they are spiriting away Kal-El to Earth
>Zod shows up, has his own plans for escape (could be a ship that's way shittier than Kal's pod or some Phantom Zone chicanery, simply to explain why he doesn't show up until Clark is an adult)
>knows humans + BKC = near full blooded Kryptonians
>makes Jor-El do the recording as he threatens Lara with promise they can be in on his escape plan
>leaves them to die anyhow lol
But frankly I am not adverse to Jor-El being a villain

Actually no, scratch that. Kal's pod is in firing range of Zod's guns. He makes Jor-El do the recording or else he will fire on his infant son. Jor-El goes along with it because he has le hope and faith things will work out for his boy

If they go with Jor-El being forced to do the second half, then there'd have to be enough time for him to intentionally scramble it to try and prevent Clark from seeing it. Doesn't make sense for the ship to land fine enough to get Clark safe on earth as well as whatever tool they decide to use to create the Fortress to be perfectly intact, but the crash somehow causes one video message to get get scrambled and it can't be fixed by any of the Superbots. They'd definitely go the extra step and have Jor-El trying to prevent Supes from ever seeing the second half.

Would also add that I like the DCAU interpretation of Brainiac being both an AI and crucial to Krypton's destruction (though make him a AI from Colu originally rather than native to Krypton). I have no clue if the comics ever did this but would be cool having Superman and Zod team up againt Brainiac, Superman to protect Earth and Zod raging and wanting revenge.

I haven't seen the movie anon, only read up on spoilers and it occurred to me the message could easily be made a misdirect rather than Jor-El actually be sinister. So would it work if after the recording Jor-El gets the upper hand, like blindsides the soldier that had a gun to him and rushes into a separate chamber, locks it, and has enough time to scramble before the doors are blown open? Maybe have Zod realise what Jor-El has done and we him beat Superman's biological father to death with his own hands?

>Presumably. Their message is uncorrupted and it says they sent Superman to conquer the Earth and BREED as many human women as he can. It's possible Luthor fabricated it but the movie seems to lean fairly heavily on the idea that he didn't and goes moreso with the message that "The Kents are his real parents".

If the message wasn't manipulated by Luthor, it's possible that Brainiac did corrupt it. Some people think it may be Zod forcing Jor-El and Lara to say that, but I hope they give Zod a rest. Brainiac isn't even one of my favorite Superman villains, but anything is better than Zod.

I'm all for Krypton being a distopian hellhole before exploding, but Jor-El and Lara shouldn't be evil. Everything else about Krypton (the -phantom zone and its criminals, the Eradicator device, Doomsday, kryptonite, etc.) should be a menace.
