Anons, this one might be too spooky for me.
Was it too spooky for you guys as well?

Spooky movies are everywhere now.

I only really liked the ending, particularly the true form of the phantom, or whatever it was.
I understand they were going for a "mental illness causes social isolation" motif but Babadook did it much better. The protagonist in Smile felt forced by the script to always appear as nutso as possible to everyone who might otherwise trust her. The ex-boyfriend would have been a great corroborater of her story, especially if she kept things as dry and technical as possible without screaming and crying like a loon.

I was mostly bored because the movie told you all you needed to know in the first five minutes, and the main chick couldn't act, so you were mostly just waiting to see how things progressed/which route the writer takes to end the situation, or not.

I feel like I've seen a hundred "the gift/curse that gives on giving" type horror movies and they all did it better.

It's a ripoff of Truth or Dare (a much better movie).

I thought it was very spooky, right up until the part when the monster impersonating the therapist starts talking to her in a spoOoOoOoky voice. Threw all the tension out the window. And impersonating the therapist was actually a good move, then just had to cut to her running out of the house when fake therapist starts smiling

It didn't help either that Smile 1 had some really sluggish pacing.

crappy movie
felt forced and dumb. Not even that scary and the monster is stupid in concept.
Also why the cat scene? It was like okay I guess the smile monster can do that now, and only once.
The car scene after was good though.

the cover still gives me the creeps. the actress was in the short and she nailed both that and the first 15 minutes of smile. if you like torture porn yeh you wont like it but most horror buffs appreciate it. it's fairly hard to do atmospheric horror.

Yeah, that killed the vibe for me really badly.
I'm surprised that no one called for that to be chopped.
