The show's success owed entirely to the fact that it came out during the tail end of covid mania/lockdowns and it was the first time Americans got a taste of eastern death game media in the mainstream (you could argue hunger games but that was a decade ago and centered more on the YA shit)

What should I watch next after Squid game?

I still think everyone is playing a joke on me anytime they praise squid game. I watched the first 2 seasons and they were both shit. The games were kinda entertaining to watch but everything in-between was embarrassingly bad. I don't understand how everyone raved about this.

The Kaiji anime was mentioned a couple of times in these threads and let me just say that it's hot garbage. It has none of the charm of Squid Game but all the annoying anime tropes that can only be enjoyed by people with severe weeb brainrot. It also the ugliest character design I've ever seen in a cartoon.

In S1 it's established that quitting the games means the survivors get nothing. The money goes to the losers' next of kin. The story going the way it does often relies on characters forgetting this rule.
