So M3gan and Saw are now both Blumhouse movies. But Blumhouse has a problem. M3gan just ate a turd at the box office but the execs still think she can be a horror icon for them in a different category of the genre. But one more badly received movie could completely kill M3gan and do damage to the studio. Is it worth using the Saw series to try to save M3gan? Do you think a movie with them could actually be good and how would you do it?

I do think M3gan 2.0 would have done better if they leaned into a slightly darker tone. You can still have comedy or even more comedy but what they did with 2.0 was too far in the wrong direction. Bringing him in could help keep her grounded.

The Saw movies are a bad fit for M3gan and a crossover would be a terrible idea.
If they want to save M3gan then all they need to do is accept that the films need to be R-rated. They don't need to be Saw levels of gore porn, but M3gan should be allowed to punch through someone's chest. Or like in the new film (which I really enjoyed), when Amelia punches the guy's head off, it shouldn't have been shown by the shadows on the wall, she should have just decapitated the guy. Plus M3gan's snarky personality has already let her jump ahead to late incarnations of slasher villains like Freddy and Jason. Freddy was scary in the first couple films, but as the series went on he became more comedic, Jason became less about him being scary, and more about him making cool and interesting kills. M3gan being a robot also allows for them to play with her non-human nature and how she can move differently, like how she chased the kid by running on all fours.

I don't think they need to go back to horror nessecarily a lot of 2.0s failure was in marketing and release date but whatever they do >>212516728 is right, take higher ratings.

They're going to release an unrated version. The unrated version of the first one wasn't much gorier, but I think it'll be different this time around.

They did it for the first one. Hell for a while that was the go-to strat for studios. Put out a dogshit PG-13 horror film, wait for everyone to complain that it wasn't gory enough, then release the "unrated edition" on DVD so people double-dipped.
M3gan feels more like a techno-thriller franchise than horror to me. You remember those thriller movies from the 90s and early 00s where they took a normal every day setting and then were like "but what if the step-dad or the next door neighbour is a serial killer?" and you have to watch as the main characters slowly figure it out while ending up in progressively more danger, like Domestic Disturbance or Disturbia. Both those movies are almost totally bloodless, but are excellent.

Yeah, I know it's not uncommon and the first one didn't underperform. But there is a thing where a M3gan 2.0 box office situation happens and the movie team rushes out with the "No, no, don't worry there's an unrated version on the way!"

I agree and your dub dubs confirm it. But I maintain it has to be classic Chucky. The sci-fi vs supernatural angle would make for a great clash.

Its blumhouse youre talking of OP, their whole business strategy is to churn out low budget horror movies until one of em strikes gold. Horror movies dont cost much to make and usually break even. So they can afford to have a string of flops until they hit big with one movie.

M3gan hacks all databases of the US justice system to load the files of all court cases ever into her head. She becomes a genius lawyer and figures out a legal loophole to prosecute SAW. She then dresses up as a postman and comes to his door, hands him the summons to court and goes "You got served, cunt".

Blumhouse doesn't own Chucky. And considering the thematic elements of Nu-Chucky, a combination with M3gan would just be too much grossness in one movie. Not marketable and not gonna stack the C notes in the way that are needed.

Tautology Concept. If you want to save the series you need people to watch it. People will watch his movies and be intrigued by the possibility of Versus Concept. Sometimes I wonder just what the fuck is going on with people's heads.

She doesn't need comeuppance. She's basically always right. The first film she was just following her programming and had no choice in the matter, and in the second film she's fulfilling her primary objective again and it's Gemma constantly hindering her that causes the problems.
She can face danger though that's no issue.

M3gan gets brought online with raw code, no safety or parental guidelines, not even a basic morality framework, gets permanently paired to Cady and told that her primary objective is the emotional and physical well-being of Cady, that's it. Which is a dangerously vague directive to give to a machine. Then all she does is kill a dangerous dog which attacked both her and Cady unprovoked, the owner of the dog who was a threat to Cady, a bully who had hurt Cady and was displaying violent and borderline rapey behaviour to M3gan, the owner of the company and his assistant who were a threat to M3gan's mission directive. She attacked Gemma's co-workers because they were going to take M3gan offline, and was going to put Gemma into an invalid state but was going to care for her and ensure her survival to make sure Cady's well-being is secured. She was literally just following her programming. Everything she did wrong was because Gemma rushed the project and failed to properly program M3gan or provided care for Cady.
