People hate on Batman and Robin but I grew up with that movie. It never took itself serious and as a kid I looooved it. People can say whatever they want about that movie but the portrayal of Gotham was 10/10

First 2 were kino because I was a kid who saw them in theaters. I was a teenager when the others came out and they were movies for kids. If the release order was reversed I’d probably enjoy them more.

>It never took itself serious

But the problem is for an unserious film it's still playing it straight way too often. When it wasn't being absolutely ridiculous and over the top it lapsed into being a more or less normal film like the first three with naturalistic performances and dialogue that doesn't at all acknowledge how goofy or insane everything the preceded it was.

The problem with Batman and Robin isn't that it's campy as fuck but that it's afraid to fully commit to being campy, which is the only way to actually do it. It could have just been funny and lighthearted 100% of the time like the Adam West version and actually been enjoyable but instead it half-asses everything and is an an inconsistent mess pulling in multiple directions.

Recently rewatched '89 and holy shit did it age like milk:
>keaton and nicholson phoning it in HARD
>horrible pace
>horrible action
>balding bruce wayne
>terrible joker makeup
>tons of awkward moments
>"YOU WANNA GET NUTS? LET'S GET NUTS!"
>negro harvey dent (I guess blackwashing goes way back huh)
>stiff as fuck batman
Visually the movie looks great (Batmobile, sets, backgrounds, lighting, costumes, etc) but everything else... blargh.

Keaton ones are good. The others not so much, but they're still campy and fun.

I agree. Gotham in my head is a combination of Schumacher’s art district, Burton’s gothic old town, Nolan’s “affordable housing” Narrows, and generic new skyscrapers for downtown

There used to be a greying tower alone on the sea and you became the light on the dark side of me. Love remained a drug that's the high and not the pill. But did you know, that when it snows, my eyes become large and the light that you shine can't be seen?

Nicholson was a better Joker than Ledger and the only good Joker scene in The Dark Knight was when he was emulating Nicholson ("come on, hit me!").

89- Amazing aesthetics- great performances, but the pacing falls off in the second half. The movie feels like it rushes to the ending
Returns- beautiful visuals, slightly weaker characterization but the performances are enjoyable and the chemistry between Bruce and Selina is unmatched to this day in Batman movies. Keaton's Batman does feel weaker and more along for the ride here though, when the first one has so many scenes that make Batman come off cool as hell.
Forever-gets a bad rep, it's definitely less strong than the first two but has it's own strengths, While different the neon, statue filled Gotham still looks really great, and Jim Carrey is fun to watch
Kilmer's Batman is unfortunately stifled in a lot of scenes, like being constricted in the costume killed his performance.
Batman and Robin- gets too much ironic appreciation if anything. It's much weaker than Forever in spire of committing more to camp- it's to it's detriment because it fails the first rule of camp which is that the characters need to play it straight. It's too aware of it's own goofiness which makes it less fun.

I don't think anyone really hated it when they were a kid, but you grow up fast and realize it's a super corny mess, but then you age more and realize it's so bad it's good.
