I don't think people even remember how goofy this movie was. It had a very silver age feel to it. Superman and Clark kept grinning at the camera.

That was the point, it was a movie for adults and kids set in time big budget comic movies were unheard of.
I wish we got more Krypton scenes

Batman Forever is my favourite but objectively speaking yeah it's pretty much obviously Superman '78

It has its problems, namely Luthor's retarded (but well acted) entourage and a wonky third act, but the first two thirds of the movie are practically flawless. Reeve will never be topped, he's simply that good

People in the 20th century understood that superheroes are an inherently childish and over the top concept, so it was treated as such. Now we try to treat them seriously and that's why it's so cringe.

All that is preventing it from being unshakable top tier is that Luther is some conman dude living in the sewers instead of just leaning into him being an obscenely rich guy with the same exact plan. Also he comes off dopey and cowardly.

They kinda had that guy in S3 do the "rich Lex" routine.

I always liked how much comedy the 1978 Superman film had. For example the whole toupee bit with Lex Luthor and Gene Hackman not wanting to shave his head for the role.

Yeah exactly. It makes no sense at all. But Hackman, Beatty and Perrine are so good and so much fun that the movie gets away with it.

Yup. There's no reason to watch another Superman, unless the old cartoons do it for you or the old George Reeves TV show. Reeve is definitive though, born to play the role of justice enforcer right down to his name.

Lex Luthor being a corporate tycoon wasn't a thing before 1986. Back in the 70s Luthor was mostly written as a megalomaniac mad scientist.

As he should be. Offices in comics are background and should stay that way. Same with the 70s and 80s movies.

And it was a time where villains had secret lairs. And he wasn't living in the sewers, it was clearly and old subway train station that had been sealed off and only accessible via secret passage. Its a concept of the villain hiding "right under your nose".

I commend you for borrowing your village's one dirty and outdated copy of Webster's Dictionary and mimicking its preface somewhere so you have sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation, all in order to larp as a White man. It's cute in a way, and I don't think I don't appreciate the MUCHO EFFECTO you put out. Thank you, Paulo.
