Hey \TV\, this is actually my first post! Hola mi TV friendos!
I really love this communities insight! I’ll say, I’ve always loved movies and I guess I’ve noticed that my favorites often included “hard boiled “, rough and tumble characters. Over the years I’ve developed a sixth sense, as one may put it on weeding out pretty boy actors merely reciting their lines, vs those that bring a certain authenticity to sometimes unseemly roles in mob/gang type movies (think Joe Pesci, he had real mob guy experience! I’m Looking for recommendations on movies featuring real ones, so to speak, authentic modern thespians like Shia Labeouf, Miles Teller, Sean Penn and or other Italian Americans (woops, sorry for the semi- racist stereotype….but me thinks I’m noticing a *trend* among my faves lol) What say you ‘tv? Who are some other raw and real actors that seem like they could both deliver a Shakespeare soliloquy as well as hold their own in Street fight?

Here’s a real one - Steven Seagall (nee’ Stefano Sigelli…follows your Italian theory…) got tons of great action flicks, and get this - he’s a black belt (stories of him choking stunt actors out, one even shit his pants!) Doesn’t get more real than that op

I thought so too, but I think Bernthal once mentioned that he doesn't think of himself as a tough guy like the parts he's played. Then again, that's something an actual tough guy might say to sound humble.

Hey just caught this great thread, here’s one for you: Dustin Hoffman (or Donatello D’Abruzzo as he might’ve been known in the “Red Hook” ‘hood in 1950’s Brooklyn) has a laundry list of both dramatic and uncannily fearsome “tough guy” (your words!) roles you might want to divenin to - Good luck on your film journey, and as always - semper kino!!
