Sitcoms only work when they're based off conflict and drama, there wouldn't be a lot to find funny about a sitcom where everyone gets along and has a swell time?
It's not exclusive to sitcoms about families or marriages. If you look at any setting for a sitcom it's a group of friends or a company or a household full of weird annoying dysfunctional people.

Because Boomers had really small dating pools they often had to settle with someone they hated and thought children might help make things better, but then it doesn't and now you're stuck in a loveless marriage you can't escape because you have children. It's something that you see in religious communities too except people feel like God brought them together and it's a test to have to deal with a shitty marriage.

For the zoomers and young millenials it's important to know that when FOX came on the scene in the 80's it marketed itself as being edgy and smutty and transgressive. The X-Files was criticized in it's first season for being gory and violent. FOX was very in your face about the hipness of their content. Now we just recognize this is typical Talmudic behavior.

Even before you're married, being in a long term relationship is a lot of work. I love my fiance but damn, this world doesn't make it easy. Having kids right now would be even more stress. Raising them in this shitty world on the verge of collapse seems pretty cruel also. In my experience, you find out whether a relationship will work out for the rest of your and you partner's life around the 10 year mark. If you spent a decade together and there are no visible cracks in the relationship, you're probably good to go till one of you dies.

The issue is people don't get married after a decade. They get married after a few years tops, then the cracks do start to show up after a decade, but you still stay together because marriage/loans/kids/etc., then after another 10-20 years one person has had enough and divorce happens.

The lesson? Don't rush into marriage. And if you did, do rush into a divorce if it's not working.

More people who get married aren't thinking about them being shackled to someone for the next 30+ years, they just want someone to bone and don't want to be alone. Sitcoms like that exist precisely as a response to the “get married and have kids as soon as possible” mentality where a lot of people ended up with shitty marriages that they couldn’t end because muh kids and social stigma of being a failure. Because turns out it takes work to make a relationship work, it’s not something you just take for granted and it’s a pretty dumb idea to get hitched quickly and as young as possible just because people tell you to do so

I just recently had a kid with my gf but I can't get the fact that she cheated on me last year out of my head. She was really apologetic and it was with her ex that she had just been dumped by. I was so fucking pissed but I'm 34 and have never had a gf before so I accepted her apology and told myself I'd probably leave her if she did it again. One of my friends is married and has two kids. When the second one was born he came vist and we had a beer with a couple of friends more.
He actually had a coffee. His wife and kids came along too. Kid was crying most of the time and his daughter kept climbing on him and playing with the ten or so hairs he has left.
His face was pretty much the one at OP.
