It's more like pseud Randian one-eyed Objectivist slop. The movie critiques Kevin Costner's reactionary, untermenschian conservatism quite heavily. He doesn't want Clark to use his powers because it will frighten the weak, specifically other Christians. Russel Crowe espouses some egalitarian Objectivism, like "your powers will make the weak people around you want to be stronger, so that is why you need to use your powers." But then you have all this imagery communicating Clark is a new Jesus, which doesn't make a whole lot if sense if his role in life is to lead by strength, not abnegate his strength through sacrifice. But Snyder thought Jesus Superman was cool, so he put it in. Slop.

Stupid take. I made a point about the incongruous Jesus imagery in a movie about power and strength. Clark can't simultaneously be the lion and the lamb, that's why Batman v Superman feels so weird, too. Snyder spends a whole movie telling us Superman was wrong to hide his powers, that it is his power that justifies the use of his power. Then he tries to throw that out the window for some sacrificial lamb shit in BvS without any real explanation. Closest thing we get is Luthor providing a resentful warning that Superman's power COULD lead to tyranny, so it's almost like Superman sacrificing himself is him saying "nuh-uh." Just dumb shit all around.
