There's nothing to understand. Modern horror and the intense desire to embed le trauma themes is gay. Also the filmmakers didn't understand the the aliens they were depicting anyhow. Once again instead of just reading the material or doing any research on what the beings do, they just took the spooky faces and made them slasher villains. And finally, the rule for her not to speak was absolutely preposterous and there were many times a normal person would have said literally anything.
