Finally saw it. Fuck you, /tv/.

This was such a fun ride. I felt like a little kid again—like I was watching Star Wars for the first time, but this time on steroids. Everything was perfect. Maybe I’m just high on joy right now, but fuck it, man. This was peak.

This is a comic book movie that’s not ashamed to be a comic book movie. And that’s fucking awesome.

TL;DR: It’s fucking awesome, and you’re gay if you don’t like it.

Anon out.

Saw it too.
I usually wouldn't defend a movie like this, it's good but it's not mind blowing in any conceivable way to me even compared to some of gunn's earlier MCU films, but the hate for this shit on here and twitter is totally manufactured and desperately forced. At its absolute worst it's an alright capeshit movie.

Hi fellow /tv/ post replies,
I have also just seen Superman™ at the Neroplex® Cinema chain. It was a Mind-blowing, heart-stopping thrill-ride.
I was On The Edge Of My Seat, throughout the whole, film.

I would rate it 5 out of 5 (five / five) stars™. The story was so good that I felt like I was an eight-year-old© again.
If anyone, is not sure of whether or not they should make the decision to choose to think about perhaps considering the option to visit or otherwise frequent their locally participating cinema chain such as Neroplex® Cinema chain franchises; then, I would, without a doubt, that; seeing it is definitely.

Go see it, at a Neroplex® Cinema chain cinema.
Superman™ rocks! That's, all I have to, say.

Real™ Anon from \tv\ here.
Goodbye,
Yours sincerely,
Anon©

When the best part of your movie is the after-credits (pre-credits?), you know the movie was shit.

Supergirl should have been on the movie from the get-go and what the fuck did he do to Lex? Hoult is a good actor but no actor would have saved that character. It seems Gunn doesn't believe in anti-villain shit, his villains tend to be pretty one dimensional.

I want to have sex with the supergirl actress, I want to lick and kiss her butthole and mack her suck my balls, even if she is not thaaaaat attractive

It’s not bad but there’s no oomph either. There’s no standout performances although I found myself surprisingly enjoying Guy Gardner. A lot of people are comparing this to Raimi’s Spiderman but I think the better comparison is Venom: Let There Be Carnage. It’s a fast paced movie with very simple plot and dialogue that doesn’t waste your time or care about your sense of disbelief. It’s blatantly whimsical and comical. The score was surprising, I thought Gunn would hammer the Williams score straight on but he morphs it a bit and finds a motif that I hope will eventually evolve into an original theme for Corenswet. Like Snyder, Gunn isn’t going to hold your hand in regards to Superman’s character. While the tone of the movie is opposite from Snyder’s DC works Gunn still makes his own changes to Superman that some hardcore superfags may still disagree with. Corenswet’s demeanor is the essentially same as Cavill’s. He’s stoic, mopey, and sad at times but the main difference is that he gets angry. He’s undergoing the same identity crisis as Cavill in MoS/BvS as to what kind of Superman he is. Lois even uses the same “unilateral” keyword that Holly Hunter’s character uses in BvS. In retrospect I actually think Gunn liked Cavill’s Superman but wanted to, instead, shift the world entirely. All in all I think this movie works as a very nice elseworlds story that leads directly into a unique Justice League lineup (Superman, Mr.T, Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, Metamorpho, Plastic Man?) where Gunn can once again embrace whimsicality but I don’t think it’s suited for being the main big live action continuity. I’m surprised the budget ballooned so much, felt like it could’ve been 150m or less.

Pardon? Man of Steel was an origin story - Krypton sequence itself was something like twenty minutes long and Jor-El exposities a lot. Corenswet's demeanor matching Cavill's I don't get at all. He's much lighter excepting the scenes in the JL (both theatrical and Sneeder cut) at the end like him and Bruce at the repurchased Kent house

Just came back from the theater.

What... the fuck was that...?
This was my first Superman film, as a newcomer it felt just awful. I dont know any of these characters. I dont know how they got their powers. Too many of them hogging screentime and stealing from Superman. The entire movie Superman was getting his ass beat, he doesnt feel all that powerful. It felt frustrating to watch. I wanted moments where he can just overpower all the bullshit and beat some asses. But it never really happens.

It felt like a movie only for already existing fans. Potential new fans like me were left in the dust.
Pacing was awful. One scene Superman is beloved, and suddenly every news program is showing the clip of his parents. And instantly everyone hates him. Throwing shit at him. What the fuck? It happened with Lex too at the end, all the new programs are shitting on him and he has tears falling from his face. How do you cry that fast over a broadcast. It just felt so rushed.

I did really like the music (guitar and beats were badass), color grading, and overall vibe. But its all kinda superficial since the story wasnt compelling to me. It didnt lead to cool moments or dramatic scenes. It was just very bland.

Mister Terrific was literally more badass than Superman. I thought this was a SUPERMAN film. It just felt the purpose like an introduction to the DCU. Not a good Superman film or story.

Its not offensively bad and unsalvageable though. Better luck next film, but this is rocky start for a new cinematic universe. We really need a homerun to begin with.

I mean sure it doesnt really NEED to be shown. But it makes me understand and care about the character more. Like Hawk Girl, I think she can fly around and scream. I dont know what she can really do though and the limitations of her powers. Can she win me over without an origin story? Lex didn’t really work for me. It’s like taking a rudimentary traditional Lex and trying to slap on Eisenberg’s execution. Where he’s already fucking with Superman without actually having met him. The DCAU created and fermented their relationship really well. The whole monologue on hating Superman by nature is something that comes after years of a grueling back and forth relationship, but here it’s going through the motions to make le reddit happy because as long as something is “correct” it doesn’t matter how shallow it is apparently. He feels like a caricature instead of an actual character.

The movie just goes on from that showing how Superman constantly need help. If not from Krypto, then it is the Justice Gang. Mister Terrific might be the actual hero of the movie.

Would have been funny if discount Cavill clone xray vision was white and when he fell into the blackhole he landed on the live action Minecraft movie universe, in a foggy forest where he meets Jables Steve, he looks at him angry and Steve shits away. Another Minecraft Movie.

Wouldnt improve Superman a single bit (aside from the whole Silver Age weirdness) but people would be talking wonders about the Warner Bros brand

Only Terrance Malick could do All Star Superman justice, and he wouldn't direct that kind of film. Snyder would aura farm and brood and focus on DBZ fight scenes, Gunn would make fart jokes and insert punk rock music, but neither is sentimental or sensitive enough (in a good way) to pull off a proper All Star adaptation. Maybe Clint Eastwood could do it too, but that's again someone who wouldn't be interested.

What i disliked about the Kaiju is that the movie paid lip service about Superman trying to rescue others and not wanting to kill the creature, and so the Justice Gang can come in and kill the creature for Superman, making Superman efforts meaningless.

It felt like Gunn doesn't really care about Superman's ethics and morals, and if anything he finds it dumb, because the Justice Gang makes fun of Superman for being naive and that's it. This becomes more evident when Hawkgirl kills the Borovian president saying she isn't Superman, as if that was the morally correct choice and she's there to do something Superman is too pussy to do. Then you've the not-Bizarro fight that ends with him being sucked by the black hole. I remember people before lying about the fight ended with not-Bizarro surrendering and Superman embracing him. Nope, in the movie he dies.

It was the morally correct choice FOR Hawkgirl, that's her characterization. Just because it's a Superman movie doesn't mean every superhero in it will act the same. Hawkman is even edgier in the comics, basically DC's Wolverine in some ways.

The first half of the movie was the largest exposition dump I've seen in a while. The second half was so much better but it's ironic that Gunn is talling about "you don't need to set up Superman, everyone already knows these things" but spends so long explaining about things that he didn't show

Also it's funny that you can see where all those "Days of the week" stuff that was in the initial draft of the movie would have been but got taken out a few months before release

If anything I think it shows something that's always been sort of evident.
The weakest comedic bits in all the GotG movies come from when a real guy has to interact exclusively with a CGI character - look at the Taserface bit in 2 or the bad dog bit in 3 - and those are ones where the script has to be followed 1 to 1 since it's just a guy acting in a room by himself with a cartoon character added on later to respond to him.
Meanwhile the strongest comedic bits have multiple characters bouncing off each other and it really makes me question how much of that stuff is actually in the script and how much is just the cast being able to tap into absolute comedic gold by going off script in a way that the Superman cast just can't manage.

I think James Gunn could actually do a movie like that but he would probably change/remove the "problematic" elements, which in 2025 would be quite a few. It's be a diet version of the story. He would also likely depict it all as a joke, whereas Miller Batman still takes himself seriously. He really believes he's Clint Eastwood.

Okay I just finished the movie, and honestly the only funny scenes for me was when the dog attacks superman and supergirl (not when it attacks Lex). The movie is 5/10. wouldn't watch again, it's mediocre. This really confirms that all the praises are from fucking jeets and pakis.

Amen OP. This was the first good Superman movie since the original ‘78 Superman. A real joy to watch. Not particularly deep or thematic, but fun wholesome and true in spirit to the source material. Really excited to see what they do with Superman next. Gunn nailed it. Snyder’s brown and drab Superman will remain in browntown forever. This is probably the most I’ve enjoyed a comic book movie since TDK.

Just got out of it myself. It was laughably bad, 5/10 at best. Hoult is not intimidating nor convincing as Luthor. The notRussia subplot was absurd. The "I'm a human" speech at the end is so forced.

The acting is nonexistent. Everyone just talks their lines, and every single actor is simultaneously ugly and annoying. Corenswet is also somehow worse than Cavill when it comes to being charming as Supes. Guy is fucking old and quippy, Hawkgirl just exists, and Terrific felt forced in his disproportionately large amount of screentime but was very okay.

The human characters? Lois was a fucking awful harpy. Jimmy x Eve subplot was just extraneous. There was almost zero Clark in the film at all, which is a bit disappointing. Ma and Pa Kent look like extras and talk like stupid hicks.

The constant "what?" when a so-called joke is made, then they repeat the joke was grating as fuck. The whole style of the movie was just irritating to watch, it's like they specifically just wanted to do the opposite of Snyder for internet points. Plot was just a cluster fuck, I can't believe people have such shit taste.

Man of Steel was better because it had deeper philosophical themes, more realism (the horror of superheros actually existing), and general maturity. And (I know this goes against the /tv/ consensus) it had better action scenes.
What does nu-superman have? ADHD? Camera whipping around like a monkey is swinging it on a rope? Beta-male superman? Honestly I hope this movie bombs hard but that probably won't happen since normies will see it in droves cause Gunn pulled out every trick in the book (like the "doggo" bullshit and Lex Luther bullying poor little superman (who retardedly let himself get captured))

Superman being Jesus is not deep
>more realism
Something being more realistic doesn't make it have more quality as a movie. I'm not walking into a fucking Superman movie of all things for grounded realism.
>general maturity
What does this even mean? The last act of the movie is nothing but pure action shlock destruction. MoS is not the fucking Godfather.

Man of Steel was a complete affront to Superman and the shitty broody tone was illfitting. Why the fuck would I want a "realistic" Superman in a bleak world?
That's not appealing at all. Also, it wasn't mature or deep, a lot of it is surface level as fuck with potent retardation at key points.
