It does not need to be the greatest film of all time, or have the highest box office numbers imaginable to be a good starting off point for the DCU.
I understand why people think it does, but it doesn't. It just needs to lay solid groundwork for the future.
Look at the MCU.
The five solo movies before the first avengers movies dont all have a 90+ on RT. Only one of them does. Most of them average in the high 70s. Audience reception wasn't much better. They gave Iron Man 2 a 6.9/10 on IMDB. Captain America First Avenger a 6.9/10. Thor a 7/10.
NONE of them came even remotely close to a billion when the competition at DC with the dark knight hit a billion.
Tbh other than Iron Man 1 and 2 all the movies did kinda poorly at the box office.
What did the MCU have though?
A very strong creative grip across the projects. Worldbuilding. General crowd pleasing movies and characters audiences can get behind.
So far the DCU is doing this.
Honestly don't worry if the RT score drops to the high 70s. The Icons of the MCUs first movies are around that level too. Don't worry if the movie doesn't make a billion. The first Captain America movie made $370million from a budget of $200million. We then got winter soldier. Civil War. Infinity War. Endgame.
Don't put so much pressure on how this movie does. Just go to the theatres and enjoy the experience.
