He used to bitch about his retard failbrother Jimmy. His sob stories about Jimmy and his mother were part of the reason he landed Samantha. When Chuck further bashed Jimmy to samantba but saved Jimmy after Jimmy's car shitting fiasco Samantha got to meat Jimmy. She then realized Jimmy was affable and decent hearted and then started viewing Chuck as a sad boy faggot, and she got the ick and left him. He blamed Jimmy and when he discovered Jimmy got a law degree he began losing it completely.

>It was decided that the best way to get us straight from the car into the shower, where we could wash the outside world’s chemicals away, was to enter the house completely naked. So we took off our clothes and marched without dignity across the gravel driveway.
>“You can have first shower,” Mae said, wrapping herself in a towel. We had only known each other for a few hours.
>Someone knocked. Mae reluctantly asked if I wore underwear. “We’re playing dress-up!” Susie shouted from the other room.
>I realized what Mae actually meant was, Did I wear Susie’s underwear? I hesitated for a moment, considering the alternative: going commando in a sandy environment.

>But people came to Snowflake to nurture disease, and so, here, illness acts like a social currency. Being “normies”– a mostly derogative term meaning that chemical fragrances and electricity didn’t (yet) cause us debilitating pain – not only dropped Mae and I into a category of people who had historically hurt, abandoned, and misdiagnosed everyone we were about to meet, it also ranked us as lepers.

It's a take on the common trope of a villain being so 'evil' that the very lights in the room or hallway, whatever, flicker/shut off
But instead, Chuck is so 'good' that he makes the lights turn off
But from Jimmy's goals and motivations, Chuck's goodness actually works against it and in a way it is 'evil', to what Jimmy wants to do/who he wants to be.

>“We can’t promise that,” Mae said.
>A general silence fell over the aluminum foil room. Deb, who had been pretty emotionless up until now, looked like she might cry. Our chance at writing a story seemed to be disintegrating. So I cleared my throat and prepared to overshare in order to hopefully diffuse things.

>Many of the people we met had finally found doctors who believed them. Before, in the regular world, after enduring years of humiliating check-ups and stints in the emergency room, they relegated the medical profession to enemy status. Now, they spoke adoringly of their physicians, most of whom practiced integrative health – a blend of western science, holistic healing and one-on-one therapy.

Just Jimmy, and it obviously dominated his life. The man’s allergic to electro magnetic fields. He doesn’t actually like jimmy beyond family ties. Jimmy is the envy of his family, even though all he does it fuck up, while Chuck works very hard and honestly, trying to show mom and dad he’s doing the opposite, and they just don’t really care as much. He even tries to lead by example and Jimmy obviously really revers his brother because he wanted to practice law with him. If Chuck just let him in and continued to mentor Jimmy none of this would have happened instead he chose to be his silent adversary, and constantly back stab him. It’s painfully clear Jimmy isn’t even during their dinner and she’s probably wondering wtf why isn’t Chuck helping his brother?

I agree with Chuck in a lot of ways. You've missed the subtext that Jimmy's gift is people, and it comes to him innately just as it did to their father and that's why he was always the favourite.
Chuck is a man of rules and rigor and simply isn't likeable, so even when he has Jimmy dead to rights with records of pilfered money they side with him.
Chuck ends up clinging to the fact that he's a lawyer with an illustrious career whilst Jimmy is a no good slippin' bum, but then Jimmy manages to get a law degree and Chuck knows the business well enough to understand that his people skills will take him far, perhaps as far as Chuck even.
So Chuck is simply left with nothing. He's not the intellectually superior and accomplished but coarse older brother, he's just the worse of the pair like how he always felt with their parents.

>Jimmy's gift is people
Jimmy's gift is manipulating people. I mean he is happy enough and he isn't 'faking it' when he charms people, but he just snaps and starts throwing people in front of cars and stealing shit and forging documents in an instant. Maybe his gift is understanding and being good with people, but it's ruined by his ability to use that for selfish evil in any given moment

I still think it's pretty clear in the finale that Jimmy was acknowledging and admitting to Chuck's perspective on him, which he always understood but he couldn't fully accept. It's awful to just call someone a 'bad seed', and the show does make sure to show how Chuck contributed to Jimmy's behavior through self-fulfilling prophecy, but Jimmy spent the whole show committing and defending indefensible actions. The finale was great because he finally stopped doing that and began to cosmically set things right. It was cathartic, I had grown way tired of his bullshit myself, and it makes sense for the character that at that stage he had gotten existentially sick of it too

Chuck makes a good allegory for the trans mental health debate. He insists everything has to accommodate his problem while insisting there's nothing mentally wrong with him. Alongside this, when questioned about the inadequacies in his logic, he simply loses his temper much like someone with a mental illness will. And yet Chuck will not claim he's mentally ill. Despite the evidence. Chuck shows multiple signs of being mentally ill but society plays along. When he is forced to take a step back and look at what he is, he kills himself.

Vince Gilligan so concretely sums up the trans issue I swear it must have been on purpose.

I loved their relationship.

Actively sabotaging your little brother on numerous occasions was unhinged. Jimmy almost idolized him. I get not wanting slippin' Jimmy to work at your firm. But the rest was just fucked up. Chuck was like 50% of the reason Jimmy turned into a cheating scoundrel.

Except Jimmy consistently used his "people skills" to break the law and scam people, even his own family. This narrative that Chuck was just jealous of Jimmy for no good reason has to stop. The fact that so many retards side with Jimmy goes to show how easily rubes get duped by the halo effect. The show couldn't spell out any clearer that Chuck was right about him the whole time. Even Jimmy realizes it in the end after destroying everyone he ever cared about.

The problem is Chuck didn't say this to Jimmy's face directly and instead tried to sabotage him while leeching off him.
Shouldn't have taken a half measure.

The article made it sound like a horror show. Like if you aren't presenting symptoms of your fake illness you get thrown in a lower caste. But I guess history is just the movement of people into little groups formed solely to enable eachothers delusions and then descend into shit testing and purity spirals.

Jimmy became a lawyer when Chuck was still married.
His allergy was a symptom of stress born out of the realisation that everyone liked Jimmy despite being a scammy criminal, and no one liked him despite being lawful and righteous
His whole worldview came crumbling down
